Nursing home

My auntie has been a resident here for the last couple of years. She was quite confused when she first came here and could be at time a bit much. However they worked with her to make her feel at home.Every so often she was be confused again ask where she is and the people here would very patiently explain that she was here as she could no longer be looked after safely at home and reassure her.Most weeks they would invite my uncle over for lunch with auntie, and once, during a visit, I asked them why - I remember the manager explaining that it was because it helped my aunties to settle down. I knew that they had realized that my uncle would sometimes struggle at home but they didn't say that, just ensured that even he was taken care of well.They way they care of auntie, ensure that they find out her life, her likes, cater to them, everything that they do to take care of her, I'm really thankful for it.

When having to chose a Nursing/Care home for a relative (especially when the decision for them to be placed in one is taken out of your hands'due to the severity of my nans stroke) can be so difficult. But when me & my mum went to have a look around Sherwood court for my Nanna' we was overwhelmed with how homely' clean & cosy' and just how welcoming the staff were & the feeling we got was that they really do care. My Nan lived at Sherwood court for a few months' & even thou we was up with my nan everyday' we knew when we left at night that she was being extremelylooked after. Not only my Nanna but us as a family was treated with so much respect and my Nan got the BEST care from ALL the staff. Towards the end of my Nans life' the staff were incredible! We as a family stayed over in my nans room an nothing at all was to much trouble. They had organised sandwiches to b brought up for us so we had eaten' & the cookies they make re out of this world! They made sure my Nan was comfortable and wasnt in any pain and even thou the staff knew it was a difficult time an let us be' we knew that they was ALL there for not only my nan but for us a family. We sadly lost my nanna on 20th December 2022 & The kind words an the feeling of having an extended family & how even after my nan had passed an was still treated with so much dignity an the fact they allowed us to stay with my nan until it was time for th funeral directors to take her gave us so much comfort. We as a family can't thank everybody at Sherwood court enough for what you did for My nan. we will forever be grateful & I would highly recommend this home from home to everyone who has to make that decision xxx

I wholly recommend Chaucer House. My dad has lived there for over 2 years and the standard of care and the attitude of the staff are second to none. I have seen several homes; Chaucer House is by far the best.

My dad was here for end of life care. I cannot fault the standard of care he received. Every staff member I met were lovely, he was kept clean and treated really well. A special thank you to manager Stephanie who made sure my dad passed away peacefully and with dignity. Bless you all x

My mum spent her last days there in 2023 and was extremely unhappy with how she was looked after. This is a mistake I have to live with. Raised a formal complaint which has now been investigated and hope it improves things for others

Offers excellent support to the elderly. A pleasant and welcoming home with fully trained, person centred staff.

I was made to feel very unwelcome and maybe that I could not afford the Home! I am researching care homes for my mother who will soon need to choose somewhere and I have been advised to turn up unannounced and ask for a tour and details of costs. I turned up on a Tuesday at 2.30 pm - trying to avoid their busy lunchtime and tea-time but I was not offered a tour, not asked for my details for the future and told it's quite expensive here". My mother will be self funding and although we don't wish to have to pay £1000 per week - it seems to be the norm! I would strongly suggest avoiding this place if you want to be treated with any kindness or respect! There was also a poor lady calling out for someone to help her please and she was being totally ignored. That also put me off this place of course."

My Grandmother spent her last years at Gillaroo. A wonderfully welcoming home where my Granny and us relatives became part of an extended family. The staff are caring, passionate about their job and take the time to get to know each and every resident. Gillaroo is as clean as can be and the food is delicious. I wouldnt of wanted my Granny to spend her last years in any other nursing home.
