We went to the restaurant and ordered a Sunday Roast. It was probably one of the worst ones we’ve ever had. The beed was thin, tasteless and chewy. Everything was swimming in a pool of packed gravy and the potatoes were hard, cold and overcooked. The best part was the teaspoon of mash potato which was hidden under the Yorkshire pudding. All this for £17… “barging”. Really disappointing, at least the views were gorgeous.

One word: grubby.Really disappointing as it could have been so nice given the location. Service was terrible and unfriendly, leaving us feeling uncomfortable asking to basic service . We were crammed into the corner of the bar as “no room elsewhere” despite making a reservation and there was a constant draft from the door being open. And sorry to say, but the staff coming in and out of the kitchen did not instil trust that the place was that hygienic.

A lovely pub and we ate well on two occassions. They seem to however have different chefs on different days. One day we came and ate the Steak and Ale Pie and it was out of this world. The best crust, the most flavourful beef and unctious gravy, really rich and deep flavours. Maybe the best I have ever had. However, when we went back a few days later we ordered it again but it was bland, underseasoned and nowhere near as flavourful. Even the crust was not as good. Quite disappointing. The service was very good on both occasions.

Family evening meal. Steak and Ale Pie = delicious. Kids were very happy with their meals. Wild Mushroom & Rocket pizza = very tasty.Table service was very good. Beautiful old Inn. Highly recommend.

Comfortable rooms. Hairdryer needs updating, some more options for teas and caffeine free options would be great. Shower drain was slightly blocked but good water pressure and temperature. Breakfasts were nice but slightly inconsistent day to day with eggs. Also Breakfast starts quite late at 8.30am. Food generally pretty decent but would be great to have more veggie and salad options.

We ate here early Sunday evening and it was very disappointing. We had the last 2 diet cokes. The meal choices were very slim. Quiet. No atmosphere. Chilly. My roast dinner was served almost cold with no gravy. The chicken pie was average with watery gravy. The vegan burger was good. I heard another customer ask to have their roast dinner reheated next to us.This is not the Swinside Inn we remember from past experiences. Next year we will go elsewhere. We’re going to have dessert but decided not to bother.Seemed short staffed.

Meat pie was served burnt black. Asked for replacement which came with the wrong cold vegetables and too salty to eat. Refused a refund saying they they don't use salt in the cooking! Several of the advertised beers were unavailable and the staff were quite rude and slow service. A most dissapointing experience.

Beautiful location, with views to die for from the beer garden.Stopped for a few drinks and something to eat to warm us up from our wet and windy day out at catbells.Drinks were reasonably priced, as was the food.We had the fungi pizza, which was lovely, and the steak and ale pie with chips, steak pie was great but the chips came out hard, but was replaced with a freshly cooked batch in good time.Well worth a visit, if your in the area.Cant comment on the accommodation as we didn't stay.

One poor chap serving and no sign of any help. This pub was in serious need of staffing. Empty plates and glasses on most tables. Most arrivals simply got back in their cars. The owners were clearly not hands on. Surely you’d rather close for a day under these circumstances than provide this kind of service and tarnish your reputation like this. I can’t see us ever returning.

Traditional pub with stunning views, good beer garden. Not a huge selection of beers or local ales which was a little disappointing. However, food was very good.
