After a couple years of pain I was eventually referred to Dr Kalyan. What a lovely person. He explains everything you want to know, very professional and is happy to answer questions. I had 2 spinal injections and wow they were amazing. So greatful to Dr Kalyan for diagnosing my issues promptly and helping me get out of pain. Feels amazing. Such a friendly, lovely guy who has a great way of helping you to relax while having treatments.

Went to see Mr Kalyan with severe sciatic pain. I was struggling to walk any further than 20 steps and constantly hunched forward to reduce pain. I couldn’t lay flat on my back to sleep. I opted for the lumbar decompression discectomy surgery. 6 weeks post op I’m back active and walking my dogs, laying flat on my back and plan to get back into the gym for the first time after 15 months of agony. Thanks again for your help and fingers crossed this is my road to recovery!

Mr Kalyan first administered injections in my 87 year old mothers lower back in September 2022. The pain relief was immediate and lasted for nine months. Mr Kalyan had made us aware that there was no guarantee of how long pain relief would last so my mother was delighted to have nine pain free months. She’s now had second injections and once again the results are nothing short of miraculous. There is a clearly visible improvement in the way she stands and moves and we are both extremely grateful to Mr Kalyan for alleviating her pain and enabling her to enjoy life.

I had been suffering with severe pain in my lower back running all the way down my left leg due to a disc protrusion. I was referred to Mr Kalyan who talked me through the possible options. He explained things very well and I decided to go ahead with the lumber discectomy and decompression surgery.I was very nervous about the procedure but Mr Kalyan helped to relax me by providing great reassurance. The surgery was a success and now 13 weeks later I have never felt so good. The pain has completely gone in both my back and left leg and my quality of life is much better because of this.I cannot thank Mr Kalyan enough for his great work and would recommend him to anyone needing this kind of treatment in the future.

Suffered with Sciatica for a number of years now on and off. Had a partial discectomy in 2004 but had a relapse in 2019. Visited Mr Kalyan who quickly confirmed a herniated disk. After he initially explained I would be very limited in my day to day life ( such as cycling) without intervention, after further visits he suggested spinal injections before surgery. I have received x3 in total over past 18 months and the last one was in Jan 2020, Still going strong and cycling again and going about normal day to day duties pretty much pain free. For 3 months I had back pain and sciata from a herniated lumbar disc. I could not stand or walk for more than 2 or 3 minutes because of the pain. NHS GP treatment was paracetamol and codeine - neither of which helped. I went to Washington Spire to see Mr Kalyan, and the difference was immediate: properly effective pain relief, a good explanation of what was wrong, followup letter from each consultation, discussion about the best course of action. I decided on the spinal injections, which Mr Kalyan and the radiologist performed impeccably. I have been painfree since then (2 months ago). I can stand up straight, walk, drive, gentle gardening - all the activities I had stopped doing. I realise that this is not the end of my spinal story, but if/when my symptoms return, I will go to see Mr Kalyan again, without hesitation. Thank you so much!

I felt at ease immediately on my first consultation, he explained my options in detail and I decided surgery was the best option for me. I’m so grateful to him and his excellent team. I injured my back in a slight manner, which after a week had become crippling and hindered my day-to-day life indefinitely.After 4 months of debilitating pain (right-leg and back) and being continually deferred by my GP, I sought to put my workplace private medical insurance to use and contacted Dr Kalyan who was in partnership with the Spire Washington Hospital.After a brief assesmment Dr Kalyan referred me for an MRI scan which identified a cracked disc in my lower back. He then outlined my options in great detail (baring in mind my young age of 26) and we concluded that lumbar decompression and discectomy surgery was the best course.Now 11 weeks removed from the procedure I am very pleased with the outcome. Dr Kalyan was very communicative throughout and has outlined how my recovery should pan out. Ensuring his is open for any future support.I would 100% recommend his services to anyone else suffering spinal difficulties and commend him and the staff at Spire Washington for all their support and professionalism.

Fantastic efficient service.Lower back problems for several years.Over that time I have been seen by Dr Kayan who has given me spinal injections on different occasions with fantastic results. In one instance I went over a Twelve month period totally pain free.As the years have moved on I have developed severe neck pain ( as predicted by Dr Kalyan) and only recently underwent an injection in my neck. The results are fantastic I am now totally pain free in the neck area and have full movement back.I would have no hesitation in recommending Dr Kalyan if it’s pain relief you are looking for.Many thanks, RAYMOND FENWICK.

I have been seeing Mr Kalyan since June 2021 for my lower back and unfortunately have not been impressed. If there isn’t an operation to be performed or an injection to administer Mr Kalyan has nothing to offer at all. It isn’t always easy to understand him and what he says in an appointment often isn’t put in his letters which often contain inaccuracies about advice he says he has given. In his letters under a heading titled diagnosis he will list everything on the scan, rather than provide an indication as to what the suspected cause is. There is nothing in his letters for instance about prognosis, which from a patient perspective is probably most important. If he doesn’t know he should just say that in the letter. Other spine specialists I have seen months later outline the benefit in core strengthening and the principles underpinning an effective rehab program. Mr Kalyan did not do this. After several months he referred me to a physio (Mr Mason) at Spire who said to me that he has reservations about him and his reactive, overly conservative approach and my experience since has confirmed that. For example, 10 months after my first consultation Mr Kalyan says I shouldn’t do breast stroke when I swim. Perhaps tell me this 10 months earlier! In short, Mr Kalyan treats the scan not the symptoms, therefore if you are not a candidate for a surgery do not waste any further time with him. My life is now virtually over in large part thanks to the reactive, scan based approach of Mr Kalyan that has only worsened my symptoms. My pain now is severe in the centre of my lower spine and is constant, I didn’t have any of this prior to seeing him in June 2021, prior to seeing him in June I was more active and in less pain, I swam every day 40 lengths and stopped as Mr Kalyan told me to only do a few lengths and float in the water. I know this is long but I feel I’ve have to say all this to avoid others making the same mistake. Regards.N.B 28/12 My review was posted on 26/12 and was deleted by someone (can’t imagine who).
