The Wood Shack
Ideal place when you need a small amount of wood for a DIY project at a decent price. All sorts of lengths and types of wood for sale

I went here today to buy a piece of wood for my fireplace mantle. Anyway, got here and a tall gentleman with glasses was so so helpful, answered all our questions and was just generally really friendly. The wood is so cheap here too, will definitely come here again if we ever need anything. Thank you and keep up the great work!

This is a charitable/social enterprise providing used wood collection service and a training/employment provider for people who needs skills/work opportunities such as survivors of slavery. As a mere hobbyist punter I came looking to see what was on offer in the way of timber and to check out the prices. Yes, alright, I was looking for the cheapest timber possible, short of lifting it out of a skip myself (illegal). Living in South Birmingham I usually go to the wood recycler in Balsall Heath but sometimes he charges as much as fresh timber from a DIY chain. This place is definitely cheaper but much smaller. It doesn't really stock any sheet materials except a few offcuts of ply but it does have plenty of old floorboards and decent selection of standard construction timber in a variety of lengths. I wanted several 4 x 2 timbers cut down to 2.3m and they do offer a cutting service for a modest fee. What I hadn't bargained on was that they were too busy to cut it while I waited and I had to come back the next day. If you know what you want, ring ahead. Or come in and book a delivery.Overall very friendly staff and an interesting selection of products they make on site. I think I was told they will be relocating to the Sutton Coldfield site of Jericho Reusers next to the Household Recycling Centre so doubt I'll be able to justify driving that far for bargain wood, but if you're already in North Birmingham definitely worth checking out. They also offer a design and build service for all manner of projects.

This place is excellent I love it, recycling at its best, I brought many pieces at excellent prices for a cupboard I made, as a false wall and even flooring, so much better buying used than new so more trees are saved and this place is a charity too, friendly, helpful staff who will cut your wood at no extra charge, well done all see you again soon

Bit of a wasted Journey today, was looking for some 18mm plywood & some CLS 60mm x 30mm timber to build a table frame. Most of the pieces which were to acceptable condition were way over priced. Saw a length of timber which looked ok but price at £10 for a 2.4m length. Same size in B&Q was £4.98. Very disappointed and I don't think I will be going again.

The Wood Shack was my weekly stop for project materials.....until recently. Paddy and the guys at Wood Shack were so helpful. I always found what I needed and was made to feel very welcome there. Living so close, supporting charity, on-site learning opportunities, and a sense of community were all reasons for a 5 star review. Everything has changed! Last time I went I was greeted by what seems to be the new manager: a miserly moaning man influencing a grim atmosphere. I was offered no help at all, just grunts and negativity. The guys that work there now look like they are governed by a dictatorship. One of the old guard even apologised to me for the atmosphere when I left empty handed. I am so depressed that one of my favourite haunts has been ruined. Bring back Paddy! Bring back laughter! This is a charity, so bring back kindness! Save the employees and volunteers! Keep me updated as I would very much like to review my rating

Purchased some pallet wood which is sold in bundles of 5 lengths to finish a project. I’d already purchased 30sq metres of pallet would online elsewhere. The quality of products from the woodshack was really poor and really overpriced compared to the high quality wood I got online. Sure it’s a used product but was good for nothing but the skip. They are more than double the price of what you can get online and only a 1/5 of the quality. Also visited twice now in last month and asked for some purchased wood to be cut but they can never accommodate as their workshop is having a refit which I don’t believe. Not friendly and not cheap.

This is a really useful place. I went to make a little table to hold my Christmas tree originally, but now it's become an everyday, useful piece of furniture. The price of the wood was really good and they cut it to size. They also have a variety of different woods.
