Clare Hall Care Home
My grandmother was in this care home. There had been a few too many bad incidents that have been occurring since they have been a resident at Clare Hall Nursing Home. She had dementia.I came to visit her around March/April 2021. On arrival I was asked to do a covid test. Once the results came back negative, a nurse came out to ask me if I was ok to fill out a residential satisfaction survey. I confirmed that I was more than happy to do this. When I entered the home and visited my grandmother I entered through the visiting room due to the pandemic and said hello I then sat down.I tried to do the survey with my grandmother, however she was unable to as she was not conversing back. Shortly after, a HCA entered the room and informed myself that my grandmother was now non-verbal. This was said very casually and upset me, as it was approached in a very insensitive manner. This should've been something that myself/relatives were informed about.Recently, around the 29th of August 2021 my grandmother had a fall.I was told this by my Uncle. I was informed by one of the staff, that they assume this happened because there was not enough staff in the day room, so my grandmother was not being supervised correctly, which is disgusting given there prices. My uncle was informed by Clare Hall that the paramedics didn't feel necessary to x-ray as an ambulance came out and said that they were fine. A few days later, the home decided to take my grandmother in for an X-Ray , and found out that she had broken her right hip. They operated, and a couple days later returned to the home. My grandmother has deteriorated since this incident and I feel was a huge factor into her death and rapid decline in the past month.I Visited my grandmother with my mum on 26/09/2021 .On arrival it was clear that my grandmother was not doing well. During this visit, a staff member told me and my grandmother could no longer swallow. a nurse also informed them that the night staff gave my grandmother her medication last night ( tablet form )and recorded that she swallowed the tablets and left her. However a nurse informed me and my mother when she came into their room this morning the tablets were still in her mouth. (chocking hazard)I am very concerned about these events, and I am not happy with how the nurses deal with these situations and how they are so casual with it.Nurses have also informed me on numerous occasions how short staffed they are and how they struggle to have enough people for 1-1's. Considering prices at Clare Hall aren't exactly cheap, I find this to be absolutely disgusting. My grandmother passed away on the 5th October 2021. On the 6th I organised to come to Clare Hall to retrieve my grandmother's belongings. I came with my partner for moral support. On arrival, we were made to wait around 10+ minutes without anyone coming to answer the door. Even though the staff were aware of me coming. Finally, a nurse came to the door. I found her to be incredibly rude and unsympathetic considering the circumstances. She opened the door and was very blasé.She showed my partner and I that all my grandmother's possessions/clothes were all dumped in black bags in reception! They also informed me that all of her drawers had been emptied. However when I went up to double check, I opened a drawer to see that her two gold watches were left in there. I want to stress that I requested to deal with her room myself, and I was not informed that they would be bagging up her things.I find it incredibly disrespectful and insensitive how everything was dealt with during my grandmother's time at Clare Hall. When I first viewed this home for my grandmother, I feel as though we were led into a false sense of security.Moral of the story I would avoid this care home at all costs!
