Great location, great staff especially Ainhoa who served at the party night and breakfast in the morning. All staff were exceptional. Rooms a bit dated, but exceptionally clean with a very comfy bed.

My husband and I wanted to spend a nice night away as he worked in Perth, and it was the Xmas lights turn on, and we had panto to go and see, on arrival we couldn't find a single spot to park in so had to park the other side of town which we don't mind walking, we got to the hotel and as you see it you think it's tiered looking but it's an old mill so it's to be expected, walked in to reception and that's were we should have stayed the night, 15 minutes later we got our key, and we got to the stairs and you can see the change in carpet from nice to tired dirty and holes in it.We got to the 2nd floor and with holes in the wall marks all the way down the hallway tried to be covered with paint badly we got to our room, we opened the door and I just stood there looking it was sooooo tired dirty marks on all the walls carpet was so tired you could see the floor through it, the room looked so bad I thought it was a cheap budget hotel we walked into, the bathroom was just as bad with mild on the tiles marks all over the walls and rust and dirt in the bathtub shower and sink. The one thing which was good was the bed was comfy and clean so that was something. We got up the next morning and went for breakfast which we should have just left, food was semi warm but they had heaters on in the place which was boiling and uncomfortable to sit in, coffee was ok but as we were about to leave we had a staff member approach us after standing talk to 2 other staff about a night out and hearing her swear about 4 times, she asked us to leave a review for her as the staff gets £5 for every review they get and she wants it, and then walks off.In all I would say avoid as this is not worth the £140 a night we paid, and I have been a hotel manager in a few hotels and this is not a place I would be proud of

Lovely historical hotel. Well located for walking around the city. Very friendly and helpful staff. Very nice breakfast and evening meal. The rooms were clean but seriously need updating, shabby furniture tired fixing and fittings. Very reasonably priced and would stay here again.

Hosted an event here recently and had a fantastic experience. Chloe and Steph were both friendly and welcoming as well as providing much needed last minute support! The meeting space itself was spectacular with much of the original architecture on show. Great size at a good price and the food on offer was delicious!

Lovely hotel and staff in lovely historic building. Breakfast was excellent and Pam was outstanding in her attentive service with nothing too much trouble. The rooms whilst lovely and clean urgently need updating with worn bare carpet and tired furniture whilst public areas are all lovely. Would still come back and only deducted one star as service top notch.

Booked on an overnight to attend a conference the following day. I thought the hotel was presentable, in a great location, and the exterior is striking. The bar area felt a little soulless but the staff couldn't do enough for you, both Miya and Sara were very helpful, and the food was reasonably priced and good quality. The room was reasonably appointed with tea/coffee making facilities, a decent TV and a good comfortable bed. A little refresh wouldn't go amiss - paint, cleaning up the upholstry, but the bed was spotless and that was the most important thing.

I was here for a Christmas party, have to say the food was fantastic. Special shout out to the chefs (Kathryn, Alex, Alex, Wayne) fantastic job at cooking the meal. Service was great Chloe the manager did a great job running the party. Everyone had a great time lots of fun was had. I never stayed so can't comment on the rooms. But other parts of the building were very clean. Reception (Kerri) I think her name was, she was very helpful with everything I asked about. All in all a very good night.

Great place for a weekend away. Great location in the city with city parking ( limited). Extensive breakfast. Lounge bar has floor windows over the old mill race. Many artefacts from the old mill decorate the walls. Fascinating!

As with all Mercure Hotels, this hotel has its unique charms. It is a building steeped in history with a small stream running through it. It is a cosy place that serves great food and has a good selection of drinks. The rooms are a little dated but very clean and comfortable. They sell gifts at reception and the staff are very helpful and friendly.
