This is a great hotel in a very good location. Very handy for some of the best cafes and restaurants in Leith.The room we had was very comfortable (decor a bit quirky) and had everything in you would want from a hotel stay.We will definitely come again.

We had a very nice standard room though with no view. Everything worked and was very clean. There were a group of eight of us and we asked if we could sit together for breakfast. Proween and Chrystala were fantastic and made sure we had the table for eight every morning of the three days we stayed. They were so attentive and the service was excellent! You should hang on to these two delightful people!All in all a lovely stay in a hotel beautifully situated. We got the hop off hop off bus into town every day and it worked perfectly for us.

Hotel is situated in a beautiful place, near the river. The staff are very friendly & polite. The service was excellent. The only problem was, there was no air conditioning in the room & the bathroom had no extractor fan. We had a fan in the room which was very helpful. We only had breakfast & that was excellent, lots of variety. Once again the staff is very friendly & helpful... Also a wide variety of tea & coffee in the room. Bed was very comfortable, lovely duvet & pillows....

This used to be a fantastic hotel but this visit was not great. The rooms are looking tired and the maintenance seems to be poor. The lift door was broken and wouldn't close. The corridor on the first floor had an odd smell to it. The carpet in the room was marked, and the toilet door handle was hanging off. The bedroom walls and furniture were scuffed and marked and the bedside table draw was broken. There was no extract fan in the bathroom so the whole room turned into a sauna when the shower was used. Room overlooked a service area so lots of noise from staff shouting at each other.Service in the bar was excellent but be warned, its Edinburgh hotel prices. There's loads of nice bars around the hotel to pick from.Evening meal in the restaurant was excellent. Staff very friendly and polite although the service was a little intrusive (was asked 6 times if the food was okay).Breakfast is very poor. We sent back the hot food because it was cold and had clearly been batch cooked some time ago. Thankfully this was taken off our bill by the excellent reception staff.Given the prices charged here I was expecting a much better experience.

Live nearby and popped in to the bar as we were looking for somewhere quieter on a Saturday early-evening so we could hear ourselves speak.The bar was pretty empty & quiet, and everything seemed clean & well-presented. Staff were friendly & well turned-out.However, I'm knocking a couple of stars off for the simple reason that they serve draught beer by the schooner, rather than by the pint. Not only that, but they have the brass neck to charge £5 for this little glass of beer. I mean, a fiver a pint is bad enough, but this takes the biscuit!Still, the complimentary jar of chilli corn snacks was a nice touch.Lovely location, pleasant bar, but the beer schooners feel like a con intended to boost bar profits.

We stayed here for the weekend and the hotel staff are lovely - we didn’t have many interactions with them but the ones we did have stand out as excellent.The hotel itself is situated in a beautiful location and the tram stop just around the corner gets you into the heart of Edinburgh within 20 minutes.The room was nice but didn’t have air con - a fan was provided which did the job - but I suppose unless it’s absolutely boiling hot there’s no real need for it.There was no water in the room which was surprising and the pictures on the wall didn’t go with the room whatsoever. The decor is coming to the end of its life but it is an old building and it’s got a lot of character.If these are the only things I can complain about, then they can’t be doing too badly!We didn’t have breakfast or dinner here but whenever we walked past the dining room, it was busy and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves, so that was a good sign.There are many places to eat and drink around the hotel and it’s right by the river with very pretty views.We will definitely be coming back as our stay here just added to a lovely weekend in a very beautiful city.

Thank you Malmaison Edinburgh for a great 2 night stay. Hotel is well positioned in Leith, a quieter part of town with great independent bars, cafes and restaurants. Hotel staff couldn't have been more helpful. Rooms v comfortable and quiet and v clean. Coffee machine in room was great addition. Some negative reviews are perhaps unfair. Hotel is reasonably priced and clear that the staff make a big effort.

During our two-night stay in a suite, we found the room to be tired, poorly decorated and dusty. The bathroom was average, the sink was in a poor condition - all battered. Considering the price of £300+ per night, the overall upkeep was lacking. Additionally, breakfast offered a limited buffet selection with long queues for self-service coffee. It all resembled a slightly upscale version of Premier Inn. The decline in quality from what the Malmaison chain used to offer is disappointing. On the positive, it is located in a quiet area, close to a tram stop, bars and restaurants. Based on our experience, we wouldn't recommend staying here.

Very friendly staff, well located for the tram and nearby pubs and restaurants. The room was very spacious, clean and quiet , the only downside was the beds were very uncomfortable and neither of us slept well. If the beds were improved it would be an easy 5 star.
