Rooms are ok. Need better pillows for sure.Good food but when it gets busy the service are really slow. Talk about waiting 40min to get a dessert and the bill after spending 100 pounds on a meal

We were really apprehensive to stay after reading recent reviews about the hotel but decided to try anyway with a contingency plan in place. I have to say, the negative reviews couldn’t be further from our experience.Check in was great. Given all the info we needed from the start by a really lovely receptionist. This outstanding customer service was reflected throughout our 3 night stay by every team member we encountered - from front office to bar to housekeeping. There were Christmas functions going on over the weekend but these didn’t affect us in the slightest, in fact they created a wee buzz which was nice to walk into. The room was clean with all the amenities you could need. My only suggestions would be that the fan & lights were very loud (just old or loose fittings). Also on ground floor there could be a privacy screen on the windows as the only choice is curtains closed or no privacy. We didn’t have an evening meal but did eat breakfast which was great. Everything cooked perfectly, all options well replenished and although busy there was no wait to be seated. The bar had a decent enough selection and we were happy sitting on the sofa with a drink in the evenings. The hotel itself is clearly dated and could benefit from a revamp but that’s really a non-issue when we are looked after as well as we were.We will definitely be back, thank you for a lovely stay.

THE ROOM:We were a bit disappointed initially as having booked a premium room (which bore no resemblance to the online photos) we found the rooms was on the second floor with no lift. My wife is disabled with some mobility issues, and this was a problem. We also were disappointed to find the premium rooms had no bath only a shower and again this was an issue for my wife having to stand to bathe. 7/10THE FOOD:The food was really good, although a tad expensive. Breakfast selection was ample with the usual hot food plus cereals, toast, pastries, fruit etc. 8/10HOTEL LOCATION:Parking was ample and access to the hotel from the motorway was very easy and convenient. Easy access to the large selection of stores in the two malls. 10/10THE STAFF:The staff, however, were first class and on hearing we were staying for an extra unplanned night as a surprise for my Wife's birthday the Lewis & Joy went above and beyond in setting a special table for us fully laid out to silver service standard. 10/10MINOR NIGGLESNo Sky Sports on the bar TV, only TNT sports. 6/10UPDATED AFTER ANOTHER VISIT.If visiting please ask that they are not using the bar area for a private function as if they are hotel guests cannot access it not the TV area. Staff will get you a drink, but you need to have it in your room as all other seating it move for the private function.

Been here a couple of time for work. Every time I'm well looked after. Lisa made me feel right at home the first time I came and remembered me months later. The service is first class. Highly recommended.

Overnight stay for work. Edinburgh City Centre has become ridiculously expensive recently, so choice was driven by cost.20 minute drive outside of Edinburgh and easy to access. Adjacent to the Designer Outlet Centre for those interested.Really enjoyed checkin. Lovely duo of ladies chatting as we went through the process, told me all about the area and things to do. Certainly made me feel welcome.Shame the swimming pool has been closed, but is apparently being converted into an extended gym.Bar and Restaurant area was as expected and did it's job.Could do with a makeover at some point. As with most Mercure hotels I've stayed in hasn't caught up with plug sockets and USB charge points at bedsides, carpeting needs a more frequent deep clean in the public traffic areas and a paintbrush around some areas wouldn't go amiss.I'd definitely use the hotel again now I've experienced as is handy for work location and was best value I could find within reach of Edinburgh.

A sewing weekend with our group. Lots of space in the conference rooms and good light. Staff had to be reminded about providing us with tea and coffee. Rooms are clean and comfy. A grab rail in the bath would let us less able folks use the shower safely. Food was good. Will be back in March.

Stayed here for a business trip spent a few days Lisa was fantastic, communicated very well with her team and with customers, she made sure that she strived in customer service always putting the needs of them first this is the reason for the 5 stars for Lisa, I do believe though that the reception could have communicated a lot better with the guests as you get told you can go for dinner between 6:30-9:30 but upon arriving we was having to book tables as there was functions on and I understand they can be busy on them times but this should be relayed better to the customer, rooms slightly outdated if I was here for a longer period of time this may have bothered me.

Having stayed at Mercure Livingston on several occasions (pre-covid) we did not feel it necessary to do any review searching prior to our recent trip however THAT WAS A HUGE MISTAKE!! Had I known we had paid to stay in a dirty, unsafe doss-house for homeless & refugee communities I would definitely found alternative hotel elsewhere. I was staying with my Mother and young daughter and felt extremely scared & intimidated during our entire stay. Gangs of men, smoking and shouting obstructing the main entrance door on our arrival with holdalls full of nuts/bolts/screwdrivers/hammers whilst carrying out mechanical work in the carpark on scrap vehicles and countless bikes which were stacked up at the entrance. Not very welcoming!! Then the receptionist was extremely rude when we tried to check in. No Xmas decorations as we had seen previously on our stays here. Swimming pool closed permanently. Could not get a seat in the restaurant to wait for our room as all tables & chairs were occupied with people who were eating from plastic take-away boxes. Bar not well stocked, even soft drinks sold out but charged us a fortune for what they could sell us. All foyer furniture absolutely filthy and an overwhelming disgusting odour throughout the whole building. Our room was situated on the ground floor and sandwiched between 2 permanent residents" rooms of which they banged and thumped doors
