Halifax Hall Hotel

We had a wedding booking with The Halifax Hall Hotel last weekend. From start to finish, the process was a nightmare.Upon creating a group booking, guests were refused invoices/ receipts. Several guests were then asked to pay when they already had. I received a call from the events coordinator explaining they hadn't taken guests contact details, so could I call anyone who hadn't yet paid before their room was cancelled.The evening before our wedding we were told a conference was 'taking priority' so we couldn't book in at the restaurant, despite many guests having traveled long distances. Eventually they agreed but split our party between two rooms and wouldn't let us mingle. They made it obvious we had put them out by wanting to dine there.I had to ask for help with carrying my dress and suitcases up three flights of stairs to our room. A suitcase was left unattended by reception.The room was very hot. We were banned from using a larger space to get ready for the wedding, despite both our make up artist and hair stylist saying they'd been offered bigger rooms for other brides.Reception staff did not offer to help with doors or umbrellas when we were leaving for the ceremony. Instead they just stared at the wedding party and giggled amongst themselves.Breakfast service was inconsistent and inattentive. Coffee machine ran out of water and wasn't replaced for 30 mins.The room had cobwebs on lights, hairs in the shower and no one serviced the room over the two days we stayed, despite it being the wedding suite.Icing on the cake- a manager agreed a refund but accidently charged my credit card the full room rate again, leaving us unable to go on our mini moon.Asked to speak to a senior manager but none available.Shocking and distressing experience.It is evident there are huge issues with management and training. The response for any error is 'that's out of our control' IF you can get hold of a manager.Disabled parking round back of hotel so not accessible.

Great hotel for family reunion. Food fantastic and lovely surroundings. Although extremely helpful, the staff were a little inexperienced (possibly due to them mostly being students as the hotel is part of the university) but overall the stay was fabulous. Great value for money and would definitely stay here again.

A great stay for one night whilst on a business trip to Sheffield. Room met all my requirements. Food was absolutely excellent and high quality. All staff were so helpful and attentive. Hope to visit again soon and would recommend.

What a lovely hotel this is. We stayed here as attending an event in the area and we had a great stay. The room we had was large and comfortable, breakfast was great. No issues

Really liked this place. Rooms compact but without air con. We opened the window which sufficed but in hot summer days cannot comment.However it's a lovely hotel,breakfast and service superb.With the added bonus if parking and a short walk to the botanical Gardens.

Great location with a bustling street of bars/restaurants and shops within 10 minute walk. The bus also takes you directly to the town not far away.The hotel was very good with lovely staff.We stayed on the hottest day of the year which wasn’t the best with no air conditioning.Food was great with very high quality ingredients.

My wife and I have stayed here quite a few times over the years as both of our daughters went to Sheffield university and initially stayed on campus next to the Halifax hall hotel. Both my daughters had their weddings and receptions here.The hotel is very clean and the staff helpful and professional.The restaurant in the evening is very good as is the breakfast.

For a 4 star hotel I expected way more. The TV in the room didn't have any signal half the time, and when it did have signal, only a select few channels worked. The shower water pressure was low. There were many scuffs and marks on the walls and doorframes. For breakfast, the food itself was good, but it seems like the staff are uni students who aren't really bothered. They showed us to a table then chatted in the kitchen until we asked one to take our order 10 mins later. When other people came in they just asked What's your room number?" without so much as a "Good morning". The milk jug for cereal was empty when we arrived and was never filled. Breakfast was served until 10:00 but they started clearing the tables at 09:30 giving the impression we needed to hurry up."

Stayed 1 night . Lovely area. Lovely clean room and spacious unsuite. Friendly staff. Amazing breakfast next morning . Will definitely return when in Sheffield.
