Spitfire Visitor Centre Hangar 42
Such a wonderful experience to share a few hours with a team of volunteers who are quite obviously passionate about their museum and it's history. They tell real life stories of our heroic pilots along with the Polish squadrons who were based at the same operational base flying night time fighter sorties out of Blackpool.Fascinating and interesting made all the more marvellous by the enthusiastic team of people here.

D-Day Centre & WW2 Museum - Portland, Dorset
This is probably the best interactive WW2 museum that you'll ever find! It's an amazing collection of weaponry, machinery, uniform, and local history, alongside a wealth of knowledge from its staff; It's definitely worth a visit.

National Civil War Centre - Newark Museum
Good for the kids, lots for them to do. There was a guy outside dressed up in civil war uniform who was very chatty about the civil war. I enjoyed the history of Newark part in the museum more than the civil war bits.

Brilliant little museum. The owner has been collecting since he was a boy. All items are legit Operation Market Garden items. Make sure you bring cash and book in advance.

Wellesbourne Wartime Museum
Great museum, a very comprehensive collection of local & national wartime exhibits & really informative staff/volunteers. Cafe is also good and a lovely spot to watch planes take off and land. Our kids loved it but worth a visit for anyone passing through or with an interest.

Bottisham Airfield Museum
Nice little local museum and cafe. I stopped off when cycling passed so I was mainly using the cafe. The display on the airfield was quite limited is just one aircraft (P51 Mustang) and a couple of Jeeps. You could get up nice and close to the exhibits and even go for a ride in the Jeeps. The museum was quite small but he was only there to tell the story of the wartime airfield.I thought the cafe was quite quaint, it was dressed up in a war-time style. The cafe staff/ volunteers dressed in the appropriate era too. I quite liked it. Luckily they didn't adopt old fashioned service and food standards. The staff were friendly and welcoming . My carrot cake was very good. The prices were very reasonable as well.I would be more than happy to go back there, it is just a bit too close to where I live and it has limited opening hours. I only gave this a four-star because of the limited display and opening hours. If you live nearby, it's well worth visit, but probably not if you have to travel some distance.

War Memorial Building
Really brings home the sickening futility of the war. The massacre of a generation. And for what?
