If i could give no stars i would. The staff are downright rude & extremely unhelpful with a ‘this is a local shop for local people’ attitude, Ive never been into a shop where i have felt so unwelcome. The over made up old madam that served me was just downright rude and unhelpful. Extremely overpriced-I spent over £35 with gritted teeth and I wont be returning. Shop elsewhere if you want essentials in Alfriston.

This little shop is simply outstanding, once you're in you'll find a wonderful array of goodies presented in beautiful original shop fittings, full of charm & fabulous, friendly staff. At the back of the shop you'll find a delicatessen oozing with good things, local bread, cakes, homemade coleslaw, sandwich fillings & so much more, excellent array of hot pasties & pastries including vegetarian & vegan - completely delicious.Local wines & sparkling wine from the vineyard literally up the road, local honey, jams, chutneys & marmalade, its brilliant & until you visit yourself you just cannot appreciate how good it is !! Oh & takeaway coffee is utterly superb!!I can only give 5 stars but it deserves 10 - outstanding!!⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

What a beautiful village, lovely gift and antique shops but the experience was really let down but the rudest unfriendly staff at Alfriston Village store, The store itself is beautiful, but the staff really need to learn basic curtesy, I was treated as if I was a nuisance as opposed to a paying customer and the food isnreally expensive, which would be fine if the staff were nice, I I wish I had just left, but there was no where else to buy basic food. I can only sssume this is why they get away with this strange hostility. I watched to see if it was just me, but no they seem to treat all customers the poorly..I don’t think I have ever felt so compelled to write a review. Next time I visit I’ll defo bring my own picnic to avoid the store, also if you do buy milk or cream check the dates mine smelt bad on day one!

Lovely little store and friendly staff. Would highly recommend if you're looking for somewhere to pick up some take away lunch. Sandwiches and pastries were stuffed full of fillings and all tasted amazing. Will definitely be returning.

The rolls and pastry's was so good, after cycling 20 miles this little gem was great. We weren't going to go in initially but everyone outside said we had to and to be honest was glad we did.Coronation Chicken Is the one to go for (unless you have an allergy to any of the ingredients), if that's the case dont :-)

Lovely little shop with a great range of food options. Lots of gluten free choices, which is great in a village of this size. Member of staff asked if we needed help with our shop, and were polite with their recommendations.Lots of reviews on here about rude staff, but I didn't experience that on my two visits

Best place to refuel on the south downs way! Head up the back for the deli for delicious pies, sandwiches, soups, cakes and snacks. Lots of vegan options. There is a bench outside the shop but the best place to to go to eat is the green by the church, a few minutes walk away.

Good stop for a basic coffee or cold drink or even a spot of lunch. Consume it in the tiny village square opposite the shop! Popular with SDW walkers and cyclists because there's nothing else on the route for many miles. What is that monument outside?

Make sure if your served by the old lady not the owner, the you double Check the price as almost always she adds it up in her head and makes many errors, also on her calculator but forgets to clear it I was almost charged £10 more I've declined to review or mention this before but its a bit ridiculous when the last 6 times she served me the amount she made was over till I corrected, if this was someone not as savvi or who is rubbish at maths then they would be out of pocket and the shop would be in the money makes me wonder how many people per week are we'll over charged

never leave poor reviews but really quite affronted by the customer service; i purchased approx £20 worth of biscuits (two small/medium tins) as gifts for friends, the shopkeeper asked me to move away from her and behind the screen which would not have been an issue, but only said this to me and had no issue with my friend or anyone else in the shop standing in the same place as me. the shop was entirely full and she had no problem with anyone else. after a moment i came back to return the biscuits and ask her why she felt the need to ask me to move away from her and nobody else, she said that everybody else was stood far away (untrue) and that she wasn’t wearing her mask (also untrue). she seemed reluctant to allow me to return the products, i can afford to make this mistake once but certainly won’t be returning again. such a shame because it’s such a quaint shop in a gorgeous village, but clearly the shopkeeper’s attitude has driven many customers away.
