The Inn on the Lake
We had a really lovely Christmas afternoon tea in the orangery. It took a little while for things to come out (although there was a wedding reception going on too), but everything was lovely when it arrived. Staff took the time to walk us through everything and explain ingredients etc. They were very attentive, topping up tea pots and making sure we had everything. The rooms were beautifully decorated and the atmosphere was relaxed and calm.

A meal with a view. The food was expertly cooked and a great value and for the type of establishment it is, there was plenty on the plate to satisfy a hunger. The front of house were very well presented and a delight to talk too, nothing was to much for them and made our evening a very pleasant one.Would recommend anyone staying in the area to give these guys a go, you won't regret it.

Stunning location unbelievable views of Ullswater. Silver service lunch immaculate. Food was impressively served at a cost. Would recommend as an excellent experience just for the beautiful views and the genteel setting impressive afternoon teas available.

Stunning hotel, should easily be a 5 star establishment. Beautiful 360 views, at the foot of the mountains and just by a large lake with clear water. Staff are very accommodating. We went in as a large group of 40 - as a last minute decision and we’re accommodated to private dine. Such an unforgettable day and attentive staff.

Having paid extra for a ‘Fell View’ room, I was disappointed on arrival to be told my allocated room had been changed due to a wedding booking, but that my new room was still a ‘Fell View’ room. The room we were given looked straight out over the car park (see pictures) and my room was tiny, with a standard double bed and the need to squeeze between the bed and the two small arm chairs which was supposed to be a ‘seating area’. I suspect my ‘Fell view’ room was actually a ‘Standard’ room and that my paid for upgrade did not happen. A total waste of money! The bathroom window would not close, resulting in the room being cold (it’s November!) and it all looked very dated. Very, very disappointed as this was a one night treat that we’d saved up for.In contrast, we sat in the Orangery for much of the afternoon and for our evening meal. The staff were so friendly and accommodating, the Orangery was a really lovely room. The food was good value and good quality.I found the staff on the main desk uninterested in discussing our room, and was made to feel unreasonable for my disappointment about the room.I think if you are going for lunch or an evening meal, it would be lovely. I certainly won’t be booking a stay here again though. Very expensive for a substandard room.

Visited in the second half of April. Location is unbeatable, and they are dog friendly. However, for the cost (over GBP 280/night) the dog friendly room I was provided wasn't worth the money, then again I didn't go to spend time in the room anyways. They do really need to change breakfast: it lacked in quality and most importantly quantity (one mushroom, one tomato, and so on), which was unacceptable. Friendly staff and good service.

Stunning location. Had afternoon tea overlooking Ullswater Lake. Fantastic food and service and lovely garden for a short stroll after. Will definitely be coming back for a weekend stay.

We were booked in as part of the wedding party. The place is stunning and could not fault the staff and the food was excellent!The problem I had was travelling up on the day and would have liked some where to get changed. We were requested to arrive by 12 as the ceremony was at 1:00 I emailed the hotel and below is the reply (for rooms that are over £200 per night and we were guest at the wedding) We had a look on line and they actually had rooms free that day“We recommend booking the night before to guarantee you are in the room early in the morning of the wedding. In case your room will not be available before 2.00pm, we can offer the use of the disabled toilet, next to the reception area.” They also emailed us before the date to say we would definitely not be able to check in before 2:00
