This was our second time staying at it was very special. We got engaged on a hill up behind Douneside and then had a wonderful evening celebrating. We stayed in the gatehouse lodge which was exceptionally comfortable! The Christmas decorations throughout the hotel were beautiful, giving the whole place a very festive and atmospheric vibe. We were very impressed by the tasting menu and wine paring which we had in the library - special mention to James the sommelier whose knowledge and enthusiasm were superb! Thank you to all the Douneside team - we will be back!

Treated to lunch with a friend.A wonderful meal, beautifully cooked and presented.The gardens are lovely and extremely well kept with a view from the front of the house that you'd never tire of looking at.

Did not stay as a guest. There was a plant sale and gardens viewing, together with a pipe band. The gardens are very extensive; couldn't make it to the arboretum. Tea and buns very reasonable on the lawn. The Pipers were outstanding. Must bring cash, no cards.

We had lunch on a Friday in December, the festive menu. It was all exquisitely prepared and presented, with attentive service. Just excellent.

Just returned from a fantastic 3 night stay at Douneside House. From the well appointed rooms, superb gardens and wonderful service, everything about this place is 5 star! However, the quality of the food in the hotel restaurant really sets this apart from most other hotels we've ever stayed in. Particular mentions to Calum and Leon, who provided excellent levels of service and some cheeky Scottish wit in the bar and restaurant. We'll definitely be returning

A wonderful small hotel. From booking to departing after our stay, the staff were brilliant. Always helpful and friendly. Food was fantastic. The setting is incredible, with amazing views to the Grampian Mountains. The gardens are excellent especially the streamside and walled gardens. Spa and pool are clean and uncrowded. Rooms are beautifully decorated, some with direct views to the hills. Plenty of walks directly from the hotel up hills or on local paths. The hotel is on the edge of Tarland village, which is a thriving place that has a great community feel.

We’ve only used the pool but it was wonderful! Probably the hottest pool in Aberdeenshire. Kids enjoyed it.
