The Hatchet Inn is located Market Place in Newbury. I’ve had a beer in a couple pubs near to The Hatchet before but never been in. In Newbury today I thought hmm I fancy a pint I’ll give it a go. Why have I not been in here before.. When you enter what strikes me is how large this pub is inside. It’s big. It’s also … cosy and welcoming. All the usual drink suspects and guest ales! Fireside was on tap today and I recommend that. And it’s a Wetherspoon so prices are very competitive read ‘not overpriced and reasonable’. A few fruit machines scattered about if that’s your thing. Decor good. Staff friendly and attentive. This will now be my go to in Newbury. Recommended.

A pub- hotel of 2 halves. Very different atmosphere at the back compared to the front. Easy ambience and not that rough. Big garden with no heaters and limited roofed areas, good, spacious banquet seating.

UPDATED REVIEW:Further to our review last year (as below) another fantastic visit. We really love this Wetherspoons.. in a great town. Plenty of seating within, to the rear and also at the front.Lovely staff.Food once again.. perfect.. Afternoon small Fish & Chips.. Spot on.One can not complain about this place. We can not wait to return to Newbury and The Hatchet Inn........Previous Review: A fabulous Wetherspoons in a great location.Staff very friendly, very clean and tidy all round. This is an old building so stairs and parts of the upstairs sometimes feels crooked (no it wasn't the alcohol). This Wetherspoons is also a hotel..We have previously stayed and must say a brilliant location to visit the market town of Newbury and beautiful canal.Enjoyed a lovely Korma, it was a Thursday and who can say no to a 'Curry Club'.Overall... thoroughly recommend

Went to the Hatchet on Sunday lunchtime to meet family & have a drink/food. Lovely to see a pub buzzing with people & families young & old on a rainy Sunday. It's a nice big space, so you dont feel cramped or lacking in personal space. We all ate-the food is well-priced & really good portions. One of us had fish, chips & mushy peas, & the size of the cod was unreal! He's got a good appetite & it nearly beat him! My loaded chips were great-again, good sized meal foryour money, & it was all was served up in good time, & lovely & hot. Plus, drinks were cheap or included in the meal prices. All around an excellent time had without breaking the bank. Definitely recommend the Hatchet overall with our experience. Thanks to all the staff for a good visit.

Fast service and decent quality breakfast but everything was barely warm / cold and that's just not what you expect. Would have preferred slower service and hot food. With a group and didn't want to make a fuss so didn't say anything, but won't be back.

Breakfast was spot on. Had a right good fill. Always good with a refillable coffee too!I went for breakfast but I also went in the night before for a few drinks. Both visits were absolutely fine. It's a fairly long pub with a big outside for smoking and vaping.Inside its a little windy with all of the pillars and tables. Trying to get to the toilets is an adventure for sure. But otherwise got a seat first time both times and you get good value for money. If you are in Newbury and want a bite to eat or a drink. Deffo go here for no thrills.

Lovely bar. Nice staff. Large garden area. Awesome food. In a great location - we did a wonderful walk around the town and a long way beside the beautiful canal. The only downside was we had room 103. This should clearly have a single bed in it - the room is way too tiny to have a double bed in it. Hopefully they will take note of this comment. I would definitely go back, but would have to stipulate not room 103!!
