Booked in for an overnight stay en route from York to Bettyhill. Friendly staff and good room. Telly worked, although needed help working it! Pub downstairs where we had an excellent supper (burger recommended) and great beer ( a brew called Ossian. Who knew...). Breakfast was lovely.

We spent 3 wonderful days at the Smiddy Haugh with our 2 dogs. Niki and Rich were fabulous hosts, so attentive to absolutely everything. One of our dogs is a bit scared of other dogs and they were very mindful of that, keeping their own dog Jasper out of the way. I felt sorry for poor Jasper, but was also very grateful. We only had one evening meal, but that was wonderful, sitting by the lovely fire. Breakfasts were great and set us up nicely for a day of sightseeing. The nicest touch was coming back one day to find a card and box of chocolates from Niki and Rich for our wedding anniversary. Such a kind gesture! We will definitely be back.

So I can’t comment on this places food, we were on a long drive and need a loo break, but I can comment on how lovely the vibe was. A log burner going, the lady who greeted us and let us use the loo was delightful. The place smelled amazing and honestly, I’ve favourited it to visit when I’m free. At the very least if you visit here, you’ll be greeted by someone nice and be warm. Thank you again.

Turned up on Father's Day as it was the only pub we could find that had a beer garden! Didn't expect to get fed without booking but we got lucky! Food was outstanding, the best beef I've had on a roast for a long time, it melted in my mouth. The steak was excellent too although it wasn't on his plate long enough to sample. Very dog friendly, we felt really welcome and the staff were understanding of our dog's need to be left alone. On a cooler day we'd have sat inside, a lovely cosy feeling pub. Beer garden was great, we could have sat there all afternoon and so nice to have well spaced tables for a change! We will definitely come back when we're in the area!

Spent a really nice night here on the way back down South from the Highlands. Niki and Rich were amazing hosts throughout and the room was clean, comfortable and exactly what we needed. Tasty and well cooked dinner, well kept beers and friendly locals in the evening evening followed by excellent breakfast in the morning (real scrambled eggs cooked with butter and chives - honestly some of the best I've had at a hotel!) We will definitely make a point of trying to stop in next time we're nearby! See you again!

Stopped in on the way back from holiday with two kids and two dogs. Could not have been more accommodating! Seating us away from other dogs as our small dog can be reactive, bringing them water and treats. Food was really excellent, fast and friendly service. Lovely beer garden. Absolutely excellent.

Cannot Fault this delightful Hostelry, very comfortable spotlessly clean rooms, excellent dinner (despite Kitchen being officially closed mine hostess somehow produced a delicious meal for the four in our party).Good ales expertly served by mine host, breakfast could not be faultedBeware Jasper the Black Labrador, he will either lick you to death or wear you out playing fetch the plastic bone!!Would not hesitate to book again

Shocking service after a great night meeting up at a pub we thought would be a good spot to meet up regularly as 3 friends. A m8 was refused a drink at 8pm and anyone who Knows Willy would laugh at this.8pm is not drunk didn’t do a thing wrong no warnings and even myself was offered no drinks after being offered drinks at our table all night. we had planned to send guests from a luxury holiday house we own locally I’ll be warning people to avoid this place that was cringeWould not recommend 0/10.

Visited here twice, first time with family for a meal. Food was decent enough however the kid’s desserts were ridiculously overpriced which soured the whole experience. Second visit was with friends for drinks & food. Service reasonable all evening, I left an hour early as I had kid commitments however just spoke to the other two members of the party who informed me one of our group was refused service after settling the bill. I spoke to both friends & can assure you this was not due to over consumption of alcohol. In my opinion this was a power trip by the owners which is bizarre to me as we had put a good few pounds in their pocket that evening between food & drink. No way to treat customers. Can assure you I will never return & will be advising others to do the same.
