The Barnsdale

Hi. We (3 friends) went for a coffee in the courtyard with our 3 dogs. Have to say how welcoming and friendly the staff were!! They were all excellent and they brought dog biscuits for the dogs. We throughly enjoyed our visitThanks to all the fabulous staff!! We will come again

We were going to a wedding in the local area and stayed at the Barnsdale, and it was an absolute delight - the building and the surroundings are beautiful, and the staff fantastically accommodating and helpful. Special shout-out to Ben on reception for dealing with my group's various minor disasters with aplomb during our stay!

Breakfast service seemed a bit chaotic. We had to ask to order our hot food after sitting for nearly 15 mins. When it came the order was wrong and some of what we had was over cooked.They also need to sort the toaster out so it toasts both sides at the same time without having to mess about changing speeds etc. Shouldn't have to think that hard in a morning!Food we had in the evening was beautiful. Overall the hotel is great, with lovely staff.

Food pretty good, rooms and decor very pleasant and staff were fine. But £9.50 for a tiny glass of mulled port? Sorry, but that's just greedy and stupid. Took the shine right off an otherwise nice Christmas lunch.

What a beautiful place to stay!The Barnsdale hosted us for a works conference tied in with our Christmas party and I cannot fault a single element of our stay. The location is stunning, the staff are incredibly attentive and more than happy to help and the food was absolutely delicious (slightly disappointed I did not capture any evidence of it)I would love to come back socially and explore more.

The quality of the food is very good and the setting and ambiance are excellent. However the price of the food is rather steep and then they have the cheek to add on a service charge. I know this is common practice but I feel it is out of order. If I want to give a tip then I should choose to do so.

The hotel opened again early 2023 after a full refurbishment and name change. The new look is cosy and traditional without being too posh, keeping nice features like beautiful, original old flag stones on the ground floor. It's location is great for access to beautiful Rutland Water, Oakham and Stamford. There's loads of parking and all the staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was small, but had everything you might need and being newly refurbished it was clean and in good repair. The building complex is made from the local honey coloured stone and has a courtyard in which you can relax.Downsides? Prices. The restaurant will hit you for £33 for a steak and £20 for a bowl of pasta. You must decide if that's acceptable but I won't be visiting again after such a punch in the wallet. The food is fine but simply not worth the money. Our friends had dinner for two for over £100. It's a shame because overall it's a lovely hotel (if you're loaded).

We had a large family birthday celebration and the staff were all very friendly and looked after us well. Delicious food and very reasonable prices. The refurbishment is brilliant and we will definitely return. A great atmosphere too.

Diner in the restaurant:First time at the Barnsdale, but won't be the last. Lovely relaxed environment (Very impressed to find backgammon sets in the bar area!)Lovely food, sensible prices, but the highlight was the staff and the service provided! Special shout out to maître d' Ben and our super waitress Codie. They made us feel so welcome with their humour and professionalism.Thanks guys. Five stars.
