A disappointment is how I’d describe our first (and probably last) visit to this Sevenoaks ‘café’.Here’s what I liked:• Somewhat friendly welcome.• Promising looking menuWhat I didn’t like:• The pancakes which seem to be a prominent offering aren’t made fresh but rather in a ‘production facility’ according to the server.• The bacon sandwich was a let down. The bacon dry, the bread roll heavy and dry and overall not very pleasant and served with an unnecessary leaf garnish. (Caveat: I don’t eat swine but my guest does and said it was awful).• The toasted teacake was passable but only just and certainly not worth the cost.• Not particularly comfortable seating• Very expensive and really not good value at all.It never ceases to amaze me with these independent places. They must think people are stupid to put up with what they turn out.Independent businesses don’t have the luxury of the deep pockets the chains have so need to put a bit more effort in or their days are numbered. Never more so than now so be careful Basil and up your game!Do I recommend going? NOWill I go again? NOWas it good value? NOPrice point: $

A really delicious place for brunch. Recommend the smoothies and the green yoghurt and fruit pancakes.

A lovely lunch at Basil.Travelled over to Sevenoaks, we hadn't visited since before March 2020. So very glad to see Basil".Great food and friendly service. I had the Basil Spring Bowl and my companion had a sausage roll and 2 salads. Delicious! Thanks guys."

Disappointed as an independent business that they don’t take cash, was looking for somewhere independent that we could regularly go for coffee and a snack. Sadly I will not be returning, if they don’t want my cash they clearly don’t want my business. The only upside was that the server was very pleasant.Strange though that you had a tip box for real money so it’s good enough for that!

A few (not all) aloof members of staff.High Pricing not reflected in the average quality of food and drinksWeird atmosphere upstairs, very somber.Uncomfortable seating.Good quality coffee - however not a good enough reason alone to go there againBetter places to go in the vicinity that try a bit harder to keep your custom.

Well, I don’t know what I was expecting but I was incredibly pleasantly surprised. Impromptu breakfast this morning to plan my day, I walked in to ask if they had an outdoor seating area but the whole downstairs of the restaurant is doggy friendly! Result! The mocha was banging and my goodness my avo, bacon and halloumi on toast was so good I almost fell off my chair after the first mouthful.

Not my first time at Basil and it certainly won’t be my last. I love coffee and a Macchiato is always my first choice but having been disappointed too many times by baristas interpretation of this I often end up with the worlds smallest latte so I end up ordering‘a single shot of espresso with a spoonful of froth please’Brilliantly today Lucy said ‘I don’t want to be patronising but we call that a Macchiato!’I have found my go to coffee shop in Sevenoaks. An added bonus was the unbelievable sausage bap.

We came for a late lunch on a weekday and it was pretty packed! Full upstairs and only one table downstairs which we managed to grab. The food was nice but really wish they did some smaller stuff like croissants and pastries. We all loved our coffees! Even though they didn’t have ice I asked that they just make my iced latte without it and it still tasted great. Nice range of syrups too :) the staff were all lovely and very friendly which was really nice.Only criticism is that it was a little expensive, being nearly £10pp for a sausage roll and coffee each
