Smugglers Retreat Table Table
Exterior of this place is shocking. Lot of work needed to bring it up to an average level.If it wasn't for the lights being on it looked derelict. Rubbish and litter outside.Dead plants in floor pots and hanging baskets welcome you in the entrance. Carpet is rank and chairs are at the end of their life, being loose and cushions stained. Food pretty poor. Won't be returning here anytime soon.

Was staying in the hotel but was told we couldn't eat because they had a Christmas party in. So went to McDonalds instead later that evening we notice the Christmas party was for just 15 people and there was plenty of other tables that could of fitted 2 people.Found the girl quite rude. Also breakfast in the morning is not a buffet and you could be waiting 30 mins to get a cooked breakfast one of out guest waited 43 minutes.

I sat down after a number of hours of driving and relaxed. Friendly attentive staff with good quality of food. In other words, warm and tasty. The atmosphere was friendly and jovial. I’ve visited a number of times since.

A good value for money restaurant, not the best but not the worst. Food can be hit and miss sometimes, however, saying that the Sunday carvery is very good. The staff are always very friendly and welcoming

Excellent service from Kerry. Friendly, efficient and attentive. Other staff were also great for having creme egg sundaes available on request on booking. Good food and atmosphere.

Good mid-range restaurant, delivering good and friendly service. Very child friendly. Staff helpful and welcoming. Food tasty...I visited 3 times because I was staying in the premier inn next door. Had fish and chips, chicken and mushroom pie and burger and chips on the separate evenings. All 9/10 for taste, quality and presentation. Wide variety on menu to cater for most tastes. Restaurant is part of a chain (Whitbread?), so food is of consistent and reliable standard. Dessert were delicious too !

Smugglers Retreat Table Table
Evening meal booked for a catch up with friends. Asked for a quiet area - absolutely perfect. Service first class - just the right timing between courses and staff were extremely patient and didn't rush us with ordering. This will now be our local for our catch ups - James was the perfect host making sure everything was just right. Thank you James - you now have new regulars!

3 of us in party all had the Sunday Roast.For the price it's good value for money, all had pud and drink for under £45. Only complaint would be cook your sprouts for longer so you can eat them, far to hard. Still worth a visit

We had a table booked for five people and when we arrived, we was shown to our seats and told a server would be with us in a minute.We waited more than 10 minutes before I finally got up and went to the bar to order some drinks and was told they will be sent over to the table.We finally had a server come to our table after 20 minutes and ask us about our order which we all said we shall all have the carvery.He gave us a ticket each and said to we can go and help ourselves.Still the drinks had not been brought to the table.We got up and got our food and sat back down to eat.Still no drinks.Finally after another 5 minutes we received the drinks.I could understand if they was really busy but it wasn't.The service was terrible.

Smugglers Retreat Table Table
Left waiting at door and then half an hour after order taken we were told when we asked when food was coming there was a table of 8 ordered before us, not really a response to be given, as it was between 4 and 5pm so not busy, was a bit taken aback at such a response. We will be returning in January and a few other dates so hoping it will be better next time.
