We took a bit of chance here, as we were travelling back home after a weekend visiting Edinburgh Christmas Market. On arrival, we were greeted by Murray in a cordial and friendly manner that instantly put us at ease. Ordering was actually fun, as he has a good sense of humour. The food produced by the chef, Lee, was excellent: laemrge portions well cooked and definitely value for money. All in all, we had an excellent and enjoyable Sunday lunch in warm surroundings with excellent customer service. Many thanks.

I wanted to give this restaurant a 5 star review so badly but I just can’t, I am sorry… Very lovely atmosphere and people. Loved the fact that they are dog friendly. Food would be amazing if it would not be served stone cold…. After mentioning this to the host and asking the kitchen to warm it up, they offered us a free desert and took our food back. It would be all great except that we got our meat back well done instead of medium rare and barely warm again…. They forgot about us again….:((( Not to mention that after we finished our main a host brought us our sides and appetizer… Well, better late than never. We did not mention anything, finished our rubber well done meat and smiled back. Thanks to the atmosphere we still enjoyed our time but the dinner was totally ruined. We skipped the free desert, paid our bill in full and left. Don’t feel like coming back for breakfast or dinner tomorrow… although the atmosphere was fantastic. Visiting Scotland for 3 days and don’t want risking ruining another dinner again… I appreciate the attempt to fix the screw up, but if you promise to fix things, you do, you don’t just talk about it and not come through. Sorry, 2 stars only.

This place is excellent. Had Outstanding steak and sticky toffee was best I’ve had. Partner had the ale pie - also great. Really good - much better than expectations for a place like this. Hang onto that chef. Waiting staff friendly too. In fact going back tonight

Outstanding roast dinner for myself and my partner, and my daughter had an excellent fish and chips. Amy was an excellent waitress and hats off to the chef Kayla. The service was prompt, attentive, and friendly without being overbearing.I had an alcohol free cocktail too which was a nice alternative to the usual soft drinks. We'll definitely be back!

Firstly, they really need to sort out the heating because it was freezing tonight and every time anyone came through the door the temperature seemed to drop 10 degrees! I would describe the food as interesting but just not in a great way! The prawn cocktail appeared in a soup plate and seemed to have been just dumped in. Two chunks of dryish bread accompanied it but with no butter and, overall, it just gave the impression that no one really cared about presentation. For a main I had the chicken schnitzel and actually left half of it because I really didn’t enjoy a lump of deep fried dry chicken accompanied by desiccated bacon. Again, preparation and presentation just seemed to be absent. On the other hand my wife had the fish and chips and thought it was great so it appears that choosing a straightforward, simple, dish is the way to go here.

I went for a Christmas lunch. Absolutely delicious, good variety and large portions. Lovely atmosphere and welcoming staff. I would recommend having a meal there.

Dropped in for a meal and was greeted by the lovely Murray who went above and beyond to make sure our experience at the Melville Inn was a good one. It’s very refreshing to have a polite, cheery and informative member of staff see to our needs. He made a point of checking things were all good with the meal and saw to everything we needed. The food was prepared by Kayla and came hot and tasty with a good sized portion. Have to comment on the lovely dressing for my salad which delighted us when Murray went of to find out what was in it - pineapple, ginger and lemon grass- delicious. It’s a lovely place to sit in with the numerous log fires around and the Xmas decorations are now up so it’s a very warm and cozy atmosphere. Would recommend a visit to the Inn.

Lovely food, but service was beyond slow. Table of 3 + 1 toddler, eventually gave up waiting for our missing dessert. 1hr 45 mins in total, for main course & a dessert. None of us even had any alcohol, and didn’t get the chance of another round of drinks. Really disappointed, have had better experiences here previously

Came with the kids for the 5th year for breakfast with Santa. Enjoyed all round. Previous years the food has been a buffet style which we preferred for both adults & kids however was still lovelyHe really is the best Santa.
