A really lovely place to stay from a warm welcome - tip top dog friendly - in an effortless way. A quick lunch - sumptuous BLT - and tremendous value. Food looked good but we walked into town and find great pizza with large terrace. An excellent breakfast and so close to Burghley House to walk the dog.

What a great place. We came here for our daughter's wedding reception and were blown away by the location. The grounds are beautiful which made their photographer ecstatically happy, so many gorgeous places for photo opportunities. The hotel is lovely, very clean and welcoming. The food was very tasty and the way the rooms were set up was brilliant. The toilets are sparkly clean (very importsnt). The stand out stars though were the staff. They were polite, friendly (without being over familiar), hard working, pleasant and extremely helpful. My daughter had a guest stand on her train which ripped part of her dress which could have caused her to get upset, but I approached a staff member and explained and asked if they had a sewing kit. Immediately the chap went to the lady on reception and several staff then went all out to locate not one, but two sewing kits. Crisis averted! They also had a challenging time with several drunk guests who kept spilling drinks and breaking glasses. I would have lost my temper after the third breakage but the staff dealt with it with good grace and patience. All in all, I can recommend the venue for any special occasion, very impressive

We booked a mid week break at The William Cecil hotel and were really looking forward to our visit. Everything went very well until we got to our room, which we felt was very underwhelming, although the room was clean it felt very basic, no artwork on the walls and a TV that was too small for the size of the room. The decor was very tiered and needed updating badly, we were at the front of the hotel and the road outside was really busy and even though there was secondary glazing the noise was quite noticeable. Getting connected to the internet was also a challenge, but we finally managed to connect to the internet after about an hour’s messing about. On day two, we noticed on the landing growing through the top of a window there were several sprigs of ivy. after spending a lovely day shopping in Stamford, we got back to our hotel room to find the bed hadn’t been made, the cups were still dirty from our morning cup of tea and to cap it all, the TV didn’t work, i reported this to reception at 7:15 and by 10:15 no one had come to repair the TV, they hasn’t even come to let us know they wouldn’t be able to come. We won’t t be visiting this hotel again, this hotel feels like a 2/3 star hotel with ambitions of being a 4 star hotel. Must try harder much harder.

Staff are very attentive and proactive when things go amiss. The hotel is on a very busy road and many of the bedrooms are roadside. Breakfast was very good with a wide choice. A pleasant walk into Stamford and close to Burleigh House. Great market on a Friday.

Highly recommend room 4 or 14 (we stayed in room 14, the previous bridal suite).Rachael and Laura were amazing, both going the extra mile to make our stay special. Building was well maintained, rooms were charming and beautifully decorated, grounds are stunning and it's so close to town.

Met a friend there for a drink. The service was fine and the drinks lovely but it wasn't very clean. The layers of dust and detritus stacked up behind the wine rack, which was being used, left both of us feeling that we wished we had met at The George! Definitely need to get the vacuum cleaner out!

The perfect wedding venue! We simply fell in love with The William Cecil, on our first visit we knew this was the place where we wanted to get married. The setting was perfect and the food was delicious, all of our guests LOVED the food! Every single member of the team there worked hard to make sure we had the day we wanted, the day was everything we imagined it would be and more. Nothing was ever too much trouble, Amy was patient and understanding throughout our entire planning process, she supported us in every aspect of the day and helped execute our day perfectly. We cannot recommend this venue enough, a great place to eat and stay but especially as a wedding venue. We wish we could do our day all over again.
