I lived there for 6 years in the same house has the lady complaining we never had any glass broken balls in garden maybe twice but it never bothered us. It's a very nice cricket ground and like the sound of people using it, men playing cricket, boys on a weekend morning playing football the school it a village playing games , and the lady knew it was there when she started to rent the property and the glass dome was very tired and some of the glass was broken but that's due to age more than anything also done by birds flying in to it. There are screens and they use them and it is a village cricket ground for local cricket teams not professionals who get paid. If the lady doesn't like it move that's all there is to it. I also spoke to the lady who runs the hall and she is very nice well she was to me when I rented it, it's all about how you speak to some one to their reply speak nice you get a nice reply. Keep the village atmosphere it's a beautiful village.

We have just recently become involved with the cricket club and found them to be very accomodating and especially good with young children learning the art of cricket. We did have a hiccup in the beginning with dates and the weather but the lady who is secretary was quick to keep us informed, apologetic and explained their reasoning well.Settrington is a wonderful village and its lovely we still have a few of the old village life traditions around.

It saddens me to have to write this but I feel I’ve no other choice now. We live in a property very close to the playing fields where this club holds matches. Over the last year we have had two panes of glass broken from mis shot cricket balls, and both times someone has come to retrieve the ball and tell us that someone would be in to talk about the damage to our property’. Unfortunately, that never happened, so I recently decided to write an email to the club to inform them we were still waiting for an apology. I received a phone call from a lady whose name I didn’t catch, who took very little time to inform me that:* she didn’t believe there were two incidences; only one.* it must have been an ‘away team’ so it was nothing to do with the club* ‘I live next to a cricket ground so these things are expected’I was outraged at her response - after all - we don’t live next to a cricket ground; it’s a playing field that I believe is owned by the local village hall. If we lived next to a real cricket ground (as I have in the past in Headingley, Leeds) there would be adequate permanent screens around it to ensure that a) no adjacent property is damaged; and more importantly b) no cricket balls inadvertently seriously hurt the people, animals or small children that are frequently playing in our garden or any public area surrounding the ground. As I’m sure the lady is aware - if a fast flying cricket ball hit my dog, or either of my young nephews in the wrong place - at best it would very much hurt them, at worst it could seriously injure or kill them.Realising that this particular lady cared not one whit about my double broken solarium glass (which we are now having to get rid of as it would be too costly to replace the large panes of glass) nor about the potential of harm posed to the inhabitants of my garden - I thanked the lady for her apology, although I informed her it was a very strange one, and left the phone call.FYI these guys have one movable small plastic screen that sounds like it’s a prop from the 80’s film Labyrinth. It’s clearly not fit for the purpose of encasing a ‘cricket ground’ so my proposal to the club is: if the playing fields are as you say ‘ a cricket ground’ then please erect adequate safety fencing around the perimeter. If it is a playing fields then please find someone much more humble, concerned and polite to answer emails and phone calls regarding broken property arising from one of their matches.
