institutions like this one do consider visitors more of a nuisance than a pleasure. i do understand that the people working there wish to not be disturbed. but the little accessible part does not even explain the rules for designing a coat of arms nor its relationship to trademarks. it is a sad state considering that the broad public does not know much about heraldry. p.s.: pratchett fans will recognize that he went to the place before writing about lord de nobbes.

I really do love this place, it’s a hidden gem. Walk through the centre courtyard and up the stairs on either side of the main entrance and enter the main room (in the photo). The lady at the counter was very friendly and informative. There’s a little shop which sells rather unique blank cards and postcards. I bought a pack for £2.50.Thankfully the building works have nearly been completed and the impressive brickwork has been restored. Some may recognise the exterior as it was used in Guy Rickie’s film Sherlock Holmes as they home to the Head of the Order where he later dies in the bath. The ambience is very pleasing and I hope it continues to delight visitors for generations.

The College website is well constructed, easy to follow, informative, and both attractive and interesting in its presentation. The information provided is comprehensive and up-to-date as is the College of Arms' Newsletter; the latter is well worth a read to anyone with an interest in heraldry and genealogy or history. The Officers, Heralds, are most helpful and approachable to enquirers.

The College of Arms is currently engaged in the persecution of a small football club called Deal Town FC. Please express your displeasure at this attack on a small community organisation by a large non-democratic organ of the state.
