The Moorings Hotel
A very tired hotel in need of attention but on the plus side, in a lovely location. The rooms were clean but average to say the least. The hotel WiFi was good. The shower was hot but had very poor pressure. The room was cleaned during our stay, however the shower gel dispenser was, I presume, removed to be refilled by the maid but not returned to its position next to the shower. Good job we had our own! Rooms over the bar can suffer from noise created in the bar. The soundproofing is not great in rooms. The first evening we went down stairs to be told that the fryer wasn't working. This meant most of the menu was not available. They also told us that the mashed potato and spinach was off the menu as well. Not sure how the broken fryer affected them?? We ended up having the curry with rice, which to be fair was very nice. On the second evening, we were informed there was no coffee, as the coffee maker was also broken!! And finally at breakfast on the final morning, they had no butter and ran out of bread for toast........really!!! To be fair the staff were friendly, approachable and helpful. The hotel benefits from lots of free, easy parking. The location is stunning, right on Neptune's Staircase/Locks and the Caledonian Canal, with magnificent views to Ben Nevis. A lovely place to stop for a drink on the terrace but otherwise, it is hard to quite grasp, how it is 4 star rated.

Paid £390 for two rooms for one night. Definitely not good value for money in my opinion. Room was clean, yes, but the hotel is very dated. Soundproofing is abysmal and the water pressure is lacklustre.Staying as a stopover was fine.

Restaurant: the food is pretty simple but executed decently. For the price and the location where not many other restaurants are available it does a great job.We had a bacon wrapped chicken with purée that was good, and a fish and shops that felt fresh and tasty.Nothing fancy but solid choice, it’s what we hoped for in a small town, and they delivered !

Loved my stay here. Nice comfortable and clean room, tea, coffee and water replenished daily.Food excellent, Breakfast and Dinner well presented and tasted lovely also really nice coffee and cake. Staff friendly and attentive throughout the hotel. Location ideal , lovely to walk along the canal or just sit at outside seating and watch the boats move up and down the locks. Would certainly return

If you want to have a good night sleep, forget about this hotel. The walls are so thin that you can ear everything. Thank you for the resident of the room number 11, we were happy to share your ALL night. We barely sleep. They provides coton to use as earplugs but if you have neighbors who don’t sleep all night, it’s pointless. However, the bar is nice and the staff is lovely.

Can only talk about the cafe which wasn't great. The menu isn't anything like what is on their website and is much more restricted. None of the sandwiches or jacket potatoes offered there. The range of cakes at lunchtime was woeful and the coleslaw was cabbage and salad dressing with barely anything else in it. The cabin chicken didn't come with tortilla chips as advertised but with regular chips. The cajun chicken burger had dry chicken but it was saved by the tomato. Overall nothing to write home about

Stayed here for one night and really enjoyed our short stay. Our family of 6 had 3 spacious rooms and the hotel was able to place us next to each other. We each had a balcony and gorgeous view of Neptune's Staircase and Ben Nevis. I loved being able to leave the patio door open to let the breeze in all night and listen to the rain. We also were very impressed by the rain shower heads. It was the best shower of our trip by far. The beds were comfy and we slept well. The hotel is older and does appear tired. Could definitely use some new carpets and furniture in the guestrooms. There was some water damage on the ceilings in the rooms. There was a funky smell when we entered the rooms, but once it was aired out it was fine. The walls are also very thin, I could hear the folks across the hall having phone conversations.

Nice hotel, nothing fancy. It seems a little dated and it’s not very close (walking distance) to Ft. William. The room was clean, Wi-Fi was good and the front desk staff were amazing and very helpful. The rooms shower was really weak, not much pressure and took forever for the hot water to finally get hot. No pressure from the sink faucet either. Bed was comfortable also. Had to negotiate the narrow stairs to get my bag upstairs..the restaurant was nice and food was good except it took forever to get my dinner. This is a good place to get some sleep just don’t expect a modern hotel. I would stay again..

Fine, but not a four star hotel and the pricing should reflect this. Slept okay and the room was very clean, but the decor is really old, some of the hotel is visibly in need of repairs and the water pressure in the shower is the worst I have ever seen. Can't comment on the food but the staff were friendly. More than adequate for a night but not a destination in itself and slightly overpriced.

Having arrived just after kitchen closed….after challenging journey of delayed flights and missed connections!…Airton went over and above and sweet talked the kitchen into doing us a meal… very much appreciated. Lovely comfortable pub in a brilliant location. Thoroughly recommend!
