Sonning Gardens Care Home - Avery Collection

We were due to move my 90 year old uncle having palliative care to Signature. He lived out of area, but was in a local care home prior to the planned move.. Despite Signature looking like a 5* hotel, they refused to provide any bedroom furniture or a TV in the room. After several emails, they eventually said they would provide a chair for him to sit on and reluctantly provided transport after telling us it’s up to family (he was in another local care home).We were due to move my uncle on the Friday when they suddenly decided he couldn’t move as they didn’t have a riser recliner chair and won’t provide one. My uncle is not using a riser recliner chair at present and this shouldn’t have held up the move because of this. This was not an immediate safety concern.In the end, after sourcing and putting in furniture, we had to abandon the move as it was causing so much distress to my uncle and family.The customer liaison representative was quite rude with little compassion for our situation. Very much a sales rep not looking at the bigger picture.if you don’t question anything, and simply go along with their process, then I’m sure the care home is lovely. Before all this, I was impressed myself!For me, kindness, compassion, and flexibility for an individuals situation, is a must for any care home. This is far more important than CQC’s and aesthetics.The one star I’ve given id like to give to the maintenance man who helped my brother set up the room we never ended up using.

My lovely mum has lived at this nursing home since September 2020. When she arrived at the home her left leg was completely ulcerated from her knee down and was extremely painful. We had been told that this would never get better however thanks to the amazing care provided by Sonning Gardens her leg had fully recovered within 3 months and Mum is continuing to thrive. All of the staff are very kind, caring and helpful. Nothing is ever too much trouble. I must give particular mention to Teresa Hawkins who personally oversees mum’s care. Teresa keeps me constantly updated with mum’s progress. We couldn’t wish for anything more. The home itself is extremely comfortable and spacious with wonderful gardens. The food is delicious and there is always plenty of choice. I would highly recommend.

My Mother was cared for incredibly well during her 6 month stay at Sonning Gardens. All the staff were exceptionally helpful and committed to a very high level of care - thank you so much!

Visited with my elderly mum for their summer fete. A lovely care home with fantastic gardens and great facilities. I got the sense of a strong resident community and friendly staff.

We needed to move quickly when we realised Mum could no longer manage at home. Sarah, Tracy and the team were so helpful and understanding and made a stressful, difficult decision so much easier. Mum has only been there a week but we can already see the change in her as all the staff are so caring and always have a smile. We couldn’t be happier with our decision, thank you. Claire & Nicky

During my mothers stay there the staff were all so kind, understanding, attentive and gentle. Genuinely friendly and made her feel very welcome. The food was exceptional with incredible choice. Lovely that both my mother and her guests could get a variety of drinks and delicious cakes. The place is in a beautiful setting and the grounds were very well maintained. The medical team inspired confidence. Overall nothing was too much trouble. We would highly recommend this lovely home.

I visited Signature at Sonning care home yesterday. I received a fabulously warm welcome by Sarah on Reception and was then given a comprehensive tour by the Client Liaison Manager. Sonning is very spacious home with superb gardens. All the staff and residents we came across were extremely friendly and inviting. Well worth a visit! Thank you to both Sarah's for my tour.

My father was in signature Sonning for 6 weeks before he sadly passed away. The care he received was wonderful, such dedicated, compassionate staff. The residents all look happy, his room was spotless, he was always clean and sweet smelling and although he was confused a lot of the time, his face lit up when carers came in the room. We weren’t with him when he died, getting there minutes after to find two carers with him. The staff seemed genuinely upset and they looked after us as a family so well that day. It was a difficult decision putting Dad in a home but I felt very happy with him being there. I could visit pretty much any time and walk straight in to his room, so I could clearly see how well he was being looked after. Great facilities for people who are still able to do things and great care for those like Dad who need nursing.

My husband was at the home for about 6 months, before he needed palliative care, and then passed away at the home. All of the staff from the carers to the receptionist, from housekeeping and maintenance to the entertainment staff were all so special and made a great effort to get to know him during the time he was there. When my husband first arrived, his communication wasn’t great but all of the staff took the time to try to understand what he wanted and make his stay as comfortable as possible. Although the home itself is lovely, at the end of the day it is the staff that makes the difference. Thank you for looking after my husband and giving him his dignity right up until the end.
