Royal Thurso Hotel

Really loved our 3 nights here. Made to feel very welcome, all the staff are a credit to the hotel. Rooms were nice size and clean. Evening meal and breakfast was very good. And the dogs loved it too.

This is a lovely hotel, and I believe the low rating reflects previous management. I’ve stayed twice, and both times were very comfortable, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The building is great fun to explore, and the price is good for the town. The free breakfast is absolutely excellent; the highlight!

I can’t complain I’ve stayed in a lot a hotels this actually hits 7/10 for me , spacious rooms and clean cracking breakfast and staff are very helpful.Bear in mind, this place was hard hit in between covid like the rest of the hospitality sector so only getting back on its feet , can’t fault the effort of staff . Attention to detail some interior upgrade needed a little lick of interior love and paint which needs to be noted comes with a little patience.Cracking affordable hotel for around this area . Had lunch at The Royal Hotel recently and I’m sorry to say I was very disappointed. Had the royal burger but you couldn’t say it was actually meat more like processed. Shrivelled up bun with just a smidgen of cheese and a couple of bits of lettuce. Approx 10 chips. Was still hungry so had toffee cheesecake, which was more like a pie than a cheesecake. I ate it because it was £7! £32 for 6 drinks, one of which was a coke. No dessert spoon give, asked for some and given 2 when 3 of us had dessert. Had to use a soup spoon . So unfortunately won’t be returning anytime soon

A lift that doesn't work, a pain especially when on the top floor. The food was average and they initially didn't want to serve us as it was 8.15pm and they close the kitchen at 8.30pm. The bar was very un-inviting with dirty cushions and a spartan feel. Some staff tried but others were not so helpful.

Room very small for a three day stop over noisy road outside with only single glazing, woke up at 5.30am by someone on a motorcycle. Windows full of condensation in the mornings, there where only curtains on the windows, they should put net curtains on so you can at least leave the curtains open and make the room feel a bit bigger. Breakfast was fine.

We stayed for one night and were able to book fairly last minute. This is an old building, and needs to be viewed through that lens. Everything was clean, the room, though small, had everything we needed. The bed was comfortable and it wasn't noisy at night. Staff was friendly. Breakfast was included, although we just chose the continental option, you could have a full hot Scottish breakfast! Location is great, very central and close to lots of restaurants. The rooms are small, and the building shows signs of wear and tear, the floors in the hallways were sagging and the back parking lots was filled with rubble, including a broken mirror. There was no shower mat and the elctric shower, despite lots of trying and adjusting, either scalded you or froze you. This was my biggest disappointment.

The hotel recently had a change in management, so older reviews are not applicable because our stay here was fantastic. Although the furniture was a bit old, the room was great value for money, very clean. The staff were nice and attentive and it included an amazing breakfast with gluten free and vegan options. Overall, the hotel exceeded our expectations and we cannot recommend it enough.

Great place to stay in the the centre of Thurso. The room was great value, very clean and comfortable. The breakfast was also great as it has vegan and gluten free options. The staff were super friendly which made the stay even better. Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting to stay in Thurso.

The ground floor rooms are down two steps and the breakfast hall is down 4 steps the ramps they offer are like almost vertical but the staff are very nice. The shower in the ground floor room isn’t accessible. Food is good but limited choices
