E. Ashton (fishmongers) Ltd

Admittedly, it’s a while since I purchased anything from this fishmonger, but I feel it’s necessary to share one of my last experiences at this place. It is here that I had my worst face to face customer service experience whereby a member of serving staff would proceed to ask me personal questions about my occupation, ability to save money and my yearly earnings. This person grew frustrated when I refused to discuss this information, bearing in mind I had previously worked at this fishmonger when I was a teenager (aged 15 - 19) but never knew this individual personally. Furthermore, I was there on that day to buy salmon and not to disclose my personal information. This individual serving me then proceeded to direct belittling remarks at me in front of other customers which made me feel extremely uncomfortable/irritated.I have walked past this place a few times since this occasion, and this same person would hilariously glare at me. This was lame intimidation and reflects poorly on E. Ashton’s staff. For these reasons I will never consider buying anything from E. Ashton’s fishmonger again.I am aware this person is still working here. Since the events of this staff/customer interaction, I hope the person that served me on that day has made improvements and has become better at interacting with people. I only wish you well.

Excellent fishmonger with huge selection of fish, shellfish and game and very helpful staff to prepare them for you.

The oysters were perfect, the gentleman even proposed to open them if we would like. Good place, recommend without hesitation.

Sea food cocktail was the purchase, you certainly don’t get much bang for your buck, mainly oil and diced onion. Taste wise, ok, just not much for £5 pot

Great experience. I called here after travelling from Swansea to pick up the huge king prawns they sell. The lovely lady serving me, Julia, checked when I was using the prawns, which were for two meals a few days apart, she immediately said that they needed to be eaten within 2 days, and couldn't be frozen, as they already had been before. While this news was a bind, I was so pleased she had told me. Trying to figure out what to do she volunteered to speak to the manager, who suggested buying them frozen, great idea. They sold big cool bags, so after buying two boxes, she packed them into the cool bag, with a load of extra ice and sealed the top for me. I got home several hours later and both boxes were still completely frozen due to the particularly thick insulation on the bag. The bag now lives in the boot of my car, just in case. My thanks to Julia for her attention and care, the prawns were also fabulous, all really impressive. :o)

The fish and seafood is really fresh ..specially oysters and scallops..we took prawns (15.5 per kg) and oysters (1 per piece)- prawns were a bit on the expensive side but they were fresh and tasty.they also have exotic meats like crocodile,kangaroo wild boar etc.

Frozen mackerel?? I think much of the fish is not fresh here. It tastes of water. Never again.

Feeling sad to write this kind of review. I'm not kind of person write negative review on any small/big business. But to save others I'm writing this.I purchased 5 pieces of Sea Bass on Friday 16th November 2018 and requested to process it and cut it in small pieces. When I handed over packet, I found weight is quite low and checked head count on shop itself. It was visible only 4 heads and I asked the person who served 'Are you sure it is 4'. He replied 'Yes mate..we didn't nicked it anything'. I trusted him and left to home. When I opened packet I can only see 4 heads and pieces are visibly low.I went to shop again on Monday 19th November 2018 at 12:30 PM. I thought to only drop a note of it as I thought it was mistake and fish was dropped as they are serving many people on Friday.I politely spoke to same person who served me. Mate... I got a complaint". Then I said what happened on Friday. He immediately replied with sarcastic tone..."Mate we found head of Sea Bass...I'm sure you got other set of pieces...only head was missing. If you want I can give you a head of fish". Then I replied "No thanks

Not a bad place to get fresh seafood! They have a variety of fish, shellfish and more. They can clean and cut whatever you get too. I guess the only downside would be the 3 hygiene but it’s never affected anything I’ve bought and cooked with, so that’s up to you to decide :)
