Absolutely beautiful views from our room at The Red Lion in Clovelly, and waking-up to the sound of the sea every morning was a delight. Really lovely staff who couldn't have done more to help us and delicious breakfast options. We could only stay a couple of nights but really looking forward to coming back soon!

We stopped here for a well earned drink after the walk down the cobble street from the top.We took our drink and sat outside on the quay wall and enjoyed the view. The staff were friendly and service was prompt. The pub was busy inside with people eating but also plenty of people sat outside too.The food we saw looked really nice! Shame we didn’t stop for lunch now.

This is the second time we've stayed here. Absolute gem of a hotel. Beautifully appointed and clean. The staff are so attentive and friendly, but professional. The breakfast choice is fantastic and delicious, as are the evening meals. You simply can't beat fish caught that day by the local fishermen. The best bit is when the visitor centre shuts for the day and you have the harbour to yourself (apart from other guests and the locals). So peaceful and tranquil. I would highly recommend and will be booking to stay again next year.

The hotel and pub has undergone renovations and mostly has refreshed the place. However, what has been done to the Snug Bar is sacrilege. They have taken a room that is steeped in history, with layers of history like a complex patina and stripped it back to some kind of pastiche of its former self. It’s clearly been designed by someone who has no sensitivity and I can only hope they are not given something like this to do in the future.Having visited Farmers Arms in Woolsery earlier in the same day and it feels like they have tried to achieve something on the same level with about 1/4 of the budget. It’s a real shame for someone who remembers the Snug Bar and understands that it will never come back. It’s like loosing a distant relative.

We had a really enjoyable & relaxing two night stay at The Red Lion Hotel in Clovelly. From the very start - Instructions were very clear and easy to follow in the way of email communication from the Hotel Staff for our approach to Clovelly, Hotel Parking, Access to the Hotel via car, what to see / do in the historic town and restuarant bookings within the Hotel. We had two rooms booked which we were situated in the Sail Loft area which were both huge in size, well appointed, super comfortable and expectedly quiet. The Hotel & Rooms command the most stunning & unobstrcutred views of the ocean and we were lucky to have perfect weather to take it all in.Perfect location to walk the lower part of the town and Harbor along with using the Land Rover service ( complimentary if you stay in the hotel ) to take you up to the top of the hill to then walk down at your own liesure and explore Clovelly at any time of the day / night. We had dinner both nights at the restaurant within the Hotel and were assisted in organising Lobster for one of the nights also which was delicious.Overall the food was really nice, breakfast was equally as good, service / staff / views and location were all excellent and we had a really enjoyable and relaxing stay.

Only had lunch here, as the initial place where we wanted to go was only serving sandwiches for lunch. We were impressed by the friendly team serving at the bar. Hard working young people and always with a smile on the face. The meal prices were a bit on the higher side, however, all 3 dishes we ordered (fish cakes, beef burger and seafood platter) were nice and delicious.

We had a meal in the pub restaurant. It was by far the best fish and chips I have ever tasted. The batter was to die for. I never normally eat the batter as they are always soggy. This was beautiful cook to perfection.

We ordered food while here and if I could give it a minus, I would. I had fish and chips, which you’d expect to have golden batter, not brown! This tasted of dirty oil and over cooked fish, as did the chips. My daughter had pizza, which was chewy and had to be left. Finally my wife had the gammon, which was dry and thin. To make matters worse, the food came in take away boxes, not plates! Then we were also horrified to find out they only use wooden knives and forks, making the whole experience awful! We were given a buzzer to go and collect our food, meaning we had to walk through the fly infested bar again. This place really could be the jewel in the crown but sadly it’s awful. Do not waste your money on very expensive food, which isn’t even edible!

Wonderful stay. All the staff were excellent, friendly and attentive. Nothing was too much trouble. A shout out to Jo who made us laugh so much, she's such a character and to Richard, the manager who went out of his way to make sure we enjoyed our stay. Lovely food in the snug bar and breakfast was to die for. The Christmas lights, were as always very nice but a shame about the weather but we have booked again and are very much looking forward to going back. Thank you for a lovely stay.
