The Orkney Hotel

I didn't stay at the hotel. Just dinner and a couple of drams afterwards. We ate in the restaurant upstairs. Good tasty food and good attentive service. The whisky menu is huge and the prices are very reasonable

Very glad I chose to stay here for my trip to Orkney. The room was very spacious and comfortable, it’s in a great, central location, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The bar was a highlight with over 1000 whiskies and all reasonably priced. Highly recommend a stay here.

Stayed 5 nights here during a sightseeing trip to Orkney in Sep 2023. The hotel is very convenient to shops, restaurants, and sites of interest, and it has a restaurant with decent food as well as a popular bar. It is not expensive but it's not a good deal either because it's a rather unhappy place to stay. No one seems to be looking after its upkeep, maintenance, and appearance. The wifi only worked in the lobby and public areas. I overheard other guests asking about how to access the wifi in their rooms and they got only vague responses. The lounge outside the dining room where wifi was available was dreary and uninviting, with a dozen old side chairs, a few tables, and a glass dish of dusty potpourri for decor. My small room was sad and dark, illuminated by cold fluorescent lighting. The tiny shower in my room had a broken hand sprayer that only delivered a small stream of water and the tile grout was black with mildew near the floor. The hotel was very short-staffed while we were there, with staff members filling multiple roles. Usually the front desk was unmanned; the restaurant closed one night due to lack of staffing. I can see how this could be beyond the control of the owners, but the staff were visibly overworked and in some cases clearly did not want to be there. This old hotel could be comfortable and attractive if the owners would pay some attention to its appearance and maintenance.

Went into the bar lounge for dinner as a party of four (two adults, two teens) on a Tuesday evening. No problem getting a table. Good food, reasonably priced, and a very impressive whisky menu! We all left happy.

Perfectly located in the center of Kirkwall and adjoined to the Royal Cask. The rooms are beautiful and the staff is attentive. Free full Scottish breakfast every morning.

The hotel is right in the heart of Kirwall, within easy reach of all local amenities. Although a little dated, it is very clean and also very comfortable. The food was very good, breakfast more than adequate. For the whisky connoisseur, there is one of the largest collections I have ever seen accommodated behind the bar and in two large glass cabinets. Would definitely stay here again.

A very well appointed bar (nice oak work!) with great Orkney beers and its famous for over 1000 malts.

Really good location and the people working there were friendly. But the room was pretty shabby. Carpet was in a bad state, curtains not hung properly, sink plug didnt fit in plug hole, lightbulb not working, crack in the bath. Not very well soundproofed either. Really nice bar though, food was ok.

The barman as always made the experience wonderful. Great selection of drinks a huge whisky selection and great value for money food

The bar had an odorous smell to it and the beer tasted off. When we asked the barman to swap the beer for something more fresh, he took personal insult and argued with us. So we left.
