Upper Heyford Heritage Centre

My wife and I returned to RAF Upper Heyford afters 40 years. I was a pilot in the 79TFS. I Contacted Nick weeks ahead, we showed up on a Wednesday and had the best experience. Tour was exceptional and personal. The Centre is an outstanding visit for any UPH veterans. Please plan ahead and contact the center.

Interesting capture of fairly recent history.. Tour very worthwhile. Interesting ugly buildings reminding us of how serious the cold war was for the world. Let's hope we don't go back there

This was a surprising detour, it’s the old Upper Heyford RAF base. We were out cycling and noticed it. The museum is small but the video gives good overview. The base was operated by the USAAF 1951 to 1993. The base is huge and being redeveloped. The museum has various uniforms, posters and equipment from that period. If you like planes and military history, you will enjoy it. If not you won’t.

Fantastic place to visit the museum had organised an airfield tour which is breathtaking. A Good day out for family

Amazing place to learn more about the cold war and how this old military base played a major role

I booked the airfield tour and thoroughly enjoyed it, the guides were very knowledgeable throughout the tour unfortunately we couldn't go in most of the buildings. The heritage centre was packed with items, photographs and information about life of the base.

Was closed,only opens on a Sunday 10:30-16:30.Looked interesting through the window.

I went on the Upper Heyford Tour 27th August . Very impressed with the Tour Guides and parts of the old American Service Station at Upper Heyford. Excellent volunteers,all very frindly , knowledgable and helpful.May I suggest the following please.1. Arrange for a comfort / coffee break about 1/2 way round the Tour.2. The parts that I found interesting were :A. The decontamination area.B. The Airfield control roomC. The Airfield lookout towerD. The Aircraft Hanger that the opening doors work on.May I ask please - can the areas I mentioned and the rest of the area shown to us be renovated ? It would then be much more appealing to folks who wish to take the Tour.I would definately recommend this Tour, excellent guides , lots to see.
