JSC Paving & Landscaping

We commissioned Jason to construct a patio, side path, retaining wall and steps last summer. The quotation and design were very clear and well prepared. As regards the finished product, we are delighted with the result and the quality of the work is of an extremely high standard. Whilst undertaking the work, Jason was professional, punctual, cheerful and extremely hard working. He kept us fully appraised of what was happening and of the timescale. We would recommend him to friends and family without hesitation.

We first became acquainted with Jason as Covid 19 first hit us in Spring 2020. We were impressed that his van was an ever-present fixture across the road outside our neighbour's house (Trevor and Michelle Langford). He arrived punctually just before 8am every weekday and many weekends and was often there until dusk fell.We were keen to upgrade our back garden from the very basic layout that we'd inherited from Bellway Homes and were grateful to visit Trevor and Michelle's to see a wonderful creation and something of which they were extremely proud.Over the course of the next 2-3 months, we had many meetings with Jason to agree on the specification of our outdoor space. Only when this was finalised did Jason ask us for a modest contribution to cover his time. And when we contracted for the project, Jason offset this modest initial payment against the full cost of the project, which included major earthworks, laying of porcelain, a new wooden pergola and shed, water feature, planting, lighting and irrigation system.Jason and his team of trusted tradesmen turned up every day at our house until the project was substantially complete and there were just one or two small items outstanding. These were finished off soon thereafter and our project is complete. We are delighted with our new outdoor space and are looking forward to spending more time there as Spring arrives.We have had a couple of post completion questions and queries and Jason has always been quick to respond and assist.We would recommend Jason to anyone who is looking for a truly professional landscaping service.Best wishes,Dylan

The garden design is good. The workmanship is variable. Fencing, paving and plastering looks fine. Selection of plants could be better. The amount of soil of three planters was not sufficient, so the level was too low. This grave mistake had to be rectified at considerable cost which was partly refunded. A LED light strip was hanging down, the attempt by JSC to rectify it failed. Again considerable costs for a professional to sort it out. The bottom line: Once the customer has payed the bill it can be extremely difficult to get things done properly or to get a response from JSC.Duplik to Jason’s Replik:Jason’s remarks about the planting. Paula realised quickly that his knowledge of planting was limited. His comment that Box Blight is not a problem here, really set alarm bells ringing. Some of Jason’s early planting plans had tree ferns and cordylines all in the wrong position, so Paula was told by a garden expert. Each of the two small planters, measuring approx. 1.45m x 75 cm. were crammed full of lavender, three box, two bay tree lollipops plus lighting. As Paula didn’t have enough knowledge to decide on a planting scheme and Jason certainly didn’t, she went to great lengths, to organise at our own expense, a professional garden designer to advise on a planting plan only. Jason told Paula in no uncertain terms that if she went ahead with this, he would walk out of our project. The only option left, was for Jason and Paula, two non-plant experts, to thrash out, with their limited knowledge, a planting scheme together.The soil level in the two small planters was far too low from the beginning. As a compromise, we didn't request from Jason, the total cost of filling up the two planters at a later date, by our other gardener. We paid the labour costs. With hindsight, a mistake.As for the sagging light strip which was clearly visible from the kitchen window, situated approx. 5m. away. We waited 7 months for Jason to come a second time and rectify it, only for it to sag down again, by the next morning. Then we called in a professional electrician. We received neither a verbal or written refusal from Jason to reimburse us for the bill. He ignored all three of our e-mails. If as Jason commented, it was a 5 minute job, why did it take him 7 months to come and do it and then badly?Jason failed to mention that at his request, we advanced him £3000 during the work to ease his financial problems. We did not agree to a further request for an advance of, £5000.We don't agree with Jason’s interpretation of our rating of his workmanship being variable, as meaning between very good and excellent. We have acknowledged that his hard landscaping design and work is good.The bin store was painted twice by Jason with unsatisfactory results. We then had it done by a professional painter.One of the six Japanese Privets which we ordered additionally, looked very different to the others. Jason told us they stand very close together before delivery and need time to recover. The actual reason being, it was variegated and not dark green like the others. Jason went ahead and planted it, anyway.Jason told us the starting date of our project would be October 2016 and that it would be finished by Christmas 2016. He eventually started on 13.1.2017 and finished approx. August 2017. The changes we made to the original plan didn’t warrant this length of delay. The diary Paula kept of the days he worked on our project including a record of the weather, show that his attendance was very sporadic.We hope the above gives an even more ”transparent” explanation of our reasons for giving Jason, an according to him, “disappointing and negative review."

Jason provides a great service, from a patient design process through to the finished article. We decided that we wanted to install a well thought through and executed low maintenance garden that would look great and provide a comfortable area for us to use. The end result we now have is absolutely superb and has provided the garden we always dreamed of which compliments our property really well. At night time we can light up our garden for dramatic effect and this allows us to enjoy our outside space for even longer. JSC have done a great job and come highly recommended.Mike & Sue

When we moved into our house, our garden was on several levels and required significant redesign to provide improved functionality. We discussed in general with a couple of garden landscaping companies, but Jason was quick to come up with an overall design that delivered to our requirements. We decided to proceed with Jason and over the course of several meetings in the subsequent weeks we refined and bonded the design together, selecting the materials and finish we wanted from those suggested by Jason. Once design finalised, Jason with support from his labourer and a small number of supporting contractors for specific works, carried out the full scope of works from start to finish. Though the works took a longer than we had initially expected, the time and effort put into completing them was unquestionable and the resulting garden that we now have is superb. We are really pleased with the way the project turned out and having lived with the finished result for just under a year now, we remain very happy. Jason has supported us with one or two minor issues over the course of the year, and has always been quick to respond on any queries. Thank you Jason for our wonderful garden!!

Jason and team did a fantastic job landscaping my garden including the removal of old decking, grass and planting. I am not based in the area but Jason was able to deal with this easily be arranging site visits, producing detailed drawings and renderings and agreeing colours and specifications. The end result is a fantastic new patio, lawn area and planting with great attention to detail and workmanship throughout. I would highly recommend JSC if you are looking for a high quality project.

terrible, ... arranged an appointment, didn't turn up, didn't call, didn't answer phone, didn't return answer phone message .... don't waste your time, they'll waste yours !

We first spoke with Jason 2-years before the work started. When we finally decided to commission him we had a number of meetings where Jason presented his ideas then showed us samples of all materials he proposed using.At all stages we worked closely with Jason and fully understood what to expect. He even produced large plans and swatches" of the materials and colours.We were more than happy with the end result. We now have a "show" garden which is the envy of our friends and neighbours. The discrete lighting really brings the garden to life at night

Jason has carried out several projects for us over the last 6 years, with the most recent in the summer of 2020 and in each case the work was carried out to the agreed design and scope using Marshall paving products. They were all completed to the agreed schedule and price and both Justin and his team worked extremely hard and were always polite and reliable. Justin always discussed any issues that arose so that they were resolved quickly. I would thoroughly recommend them.
