We did not eat here but there was a Sri Lanka food stall in the garden area. The pub is tastefully refurbished. The staff acknowledge you as soon as you enter the bar area. Also, there are plenty of staff serving behind the bar. Limits the waiting times to be served. This is a great location, lovely view overlooking the Avon . People coming and going. Dogs are allowed. Plenty of nooks n cranny’s to hide away in. Very cosy and romantic. Plenty of atmosphere. This pub is well worth a visit. Excellent value for money. We paid £4:00 a pint of Black Bear Beer. Is this right? Not complaining as the beer was served to perfection. Rich colour, very tasty and a good head on it.

Did eat but saw what was on offer and looked and smelled excellent. Beautiful renovation with a lovely riverside garden. Good selection of beers on tap. Will definitely be returning.

Amazing place, faultlessly restored. Warm atmosphere, very clean. As for the staff, I take my hat off to them, they are amazing. We went to the black bear for Tewkesbury Live, you couldn't put a pin between people, the bar was full, a good 6 or 7 people deep but was still served quickly. The toilets were so clean, even after all those punters. We now send all the tourists that we speak to down to the Bear. A real credit to the town and fantastic to have back

Great atmosphere and they've done a good job on the renovations. The pub garden overlooks the river and the outdoor heaters meant we were sitting outside in October. Staff were friendly with a great range of beers and ciders on offer. The food van in the garden is an interesting touch and we were there on Thai night and the food was tasty. Definitely recommend

Used to frequent this place years ago and was disappointed when it closed. A long time was spent renovating it but as it happens it was worth the wait.So of the old flooring is still there and a few other bits like the individual rooms. The whole place looks amazing with a huge bar and bifold doors onto a patio leading to steps into the garden next to a river. A little bit of tranquility some days and I'm sure in time to come a little bit of hussle n bustle when popularity returns.Wye Valley ale was a winner for me and the staff were keen to take advice for choices made by the customers. Although it was their first week of being open there wasn't much in the way of food on offer but after speaking with staff I was assured change would come.Over all a good feeling for me but for those who's not visited I suggest you do just to see old and traditional mixed with modern up to date. I will be back

Well they have certainly made a Fantastic job of the black bear. It feels it’s a lot different it has a lot more atmosphere and some really beautiful areas.During the summer, I can see this is going to get really really busy.Do not judge the smoky grill on the prices, you soon change your mind when you have something. We had the cheeseburger with fries and trust me it was beautiful so give it a try as this place will not disappoint .

My first time in Tewkesbury and I was so impressed with this lovely old (yet new? Refurbished) pub. Its historic building is withstanding for over 700 years, ever since 1308 and I was so surprised with the fresh look it gives and the nice vibes. My favourite thing is: dogs allowed! And even more, they have a dog station with biscuits and treats for our pups. Monty had quite a few! The food was finger licking awesome, probably one of the best burgers I’ve ever had in my life (no exaggeration, I swear!) and also the dirty chips were such a delicious dish, that can be eaten on its own and it’s very filling. I am already planning my return there very soon. Highly recommend. By the time we were leaving the venue people kept pouring in and I am guessing it is a very popular place for drinks and dinner.
