The Oak Room
Considering the prices, I was expecting bigger portions and better service. The restaurant seemed quite (a few tables were taken but it wasnt full).Three of us share a starter of oysters for which we waited for 20 minutes. Then, we had to wait for quite a while again (40-45 minutes) before our mains came and no one bothered to come and tell us we would have to wait or came to ask we needed more water or drinks while we waited. We ended up going somewhere else for dessert as we didn't want to stay for another hour waiting for dessert. The food was okay, but not impressive. There are probably more affordable restaurants around that would provide better service.

The staff were phenomenal, very attentive but didn't hover. Wonderfully friendly and joyful. Made us feel very comfy and not rushed at all. We had a beautifully delicious meal, to start we made our way through the delightful seafood platter between four and we were very satisfied, so asked for a break which they were very respectful of and didn't rush. When we were ready we asked for the main, which was just as delightful as the starter. All the food was phenomenal and couldn't speak more highly of the staff.

Firstly what lovely staff they're a credit to the hotel. My Mum is 86 & finds sometimes she's too low at the table. Before we said anything the man (restaurant manager/head waiter)asked if she would like a cushion so that was very kind. We both had the pork which was lovely, very tasty. I was a little disappointed in the flavour of the small trio of desserts, so I was glad I didn't have a normal portion of any of them. Very unusual for me to not finish a dessert but the mandarin & pistachio Eaton mess tasted like soap to me & my Mum tasted it & thought it wasn't nice too. Choc & cherry very rich & I love Frangipane tart but it was too rich with mincemeat so dessert was a let down but everything else was superb. I would recommend to others.

Six of us had a nice dinner a couple of days ago. Lovely venue, art deco atmosphere with a nice and welcoming staff. We had a couple of bumps ordering drinks (you will need to clearly identify what you are asking for) however, the staff quickly wanted to fix the issue without any hesitation. Food was good, a really nice complementary pork belly taster was delicious, really nice fresh bread. We had spaghetti with crab an interesting and tasty dish. One issue with the fish dish which was over cooked, again the staff took the feedback with appreciation and then comped one of our bottles of wine (unexpectedly) so services and attention to detail was great. I would recommend.

The Angel's Oak Room has long been the place to go where you can count on it being excellent food and good service. This time the food, except the bread which has become an issue, was excellent but the service due to some poorly trained new staff was very poor. There are some wonderful people who work here that we have known for years. Wake up management and deal with the new staff that are damaging your reputation. And.. You have your own bakery, why be mean with the bread?

I think the Oak room have a lot to think about. The meal was by no means bad. But not up to the standard of their reputation. Their prices are premium for the area. So service and quality should reflect. The restaurant is very well presented and at first staff are very helpful and attentive. We found as the night went on, the service became sparse and inconsistent. The quality of the food was excellent, however the dishes were often conflicting. They also ran out of mussels by 7pm which seems strange. This may be person preference but, as a group, we found the portions were way too large and often the flavours were at odds. A good example being the spicy lentil burger. It was essentially a reduced lentil Daal compressed into a patty and put in an American style burger including pickles, a tomato and lettuce. The Indian flavour of the patty was at odds with the American flavours of the bun filling. In several of our meals, there was simply too much salt on the chips to taste anything. The starters and desserts were the best parts of the meal. But again, portions wer nearly twice the size of what I was capable of eating. The portion sizes in general were massive. My whole family are average sized and rarely struggle to finish a meal were beaten by the main course. We found that the eggs and rice were over cooked. And in general the flavours were conflicting and not massively enjoyable. The general consensus from our table is that portion sizes could have been halved. Flavours could have been improved and prices maintained whilst still providing value for money. We’ll definitely visit again in case it was a fluke. But first impressions have been somewhat disappointing.

Comfortable, attractive and relaxed restaurant serving good food. Excellent service. The 3 course evening menu is good value (£30) with interesting dishes. But the à la carte menu is also reasonably priced, so pick what you want and enjoy!

Had a meal with family last night, as ever glorious food and a real occasion. And one of the few places that can cater well for vegetarians, as well as carnivores.

Visited last year August. Review got deleted funny enough. Creative and tasty food. Service is appalling. Little consideration for my partner who was gluten free and when we queried a dish that clearly had biscuit crumbs on it, the waiter walked away. Expect better for that price and the reputation.

It's a restaurant inside the Angel hotel. A classic bistro. Fantastic service, good food. I'd especially recommend the lamb, and the cherry coupe for dessert.
