Smythson of Bond Street

A facade of quality all around.I bought a £450 Panama folder. The zipper broke the first time I dropped it. The factory that repairs the products is closed over autumn, so I was told 12 weeks until it would be repaired. It's been 15 weeks and I am still waiting.I bought a £75 Panama iPhone case that has since been discontinued. The case began flaking apart within 1 week of light use. I went back to get a replacement, and specifically asked (twice) whether the product defect had been fixed, since I didn't want to waste time coming back for another. I was told the problem had been solved, but the replacement fell apart 1 week later.So I have to take the case back in yet again and am verbally promised by the staff at the store a refund once I send them proof of purchase. I send proof of purchase 5 minutes later on email, no reply. Chase them two months later, no reply.I then lose my phone and case. The store manager (Drew Webb) refuses to honour the offer of a refund, despite Smythson selling me a faulty product, twice, and not returning my emails. He was literally smirking at me at times, as if I was the one who was being unreasonable. He tells me any other store on the street would not refund without the product in store. Any other store on Bond Street would not have the horrific customer service and product quality of Smythson.Over-priced, over-rated, over it.

Couple of lovey saleswomen said hello and I hoped they’d be available when I was ready to make a purchase, but the store ended up getting busy. Ended up being helped by an older French-sounding gentlemen who was a bit rude and handled my purchase roughly (grabbing it out of the plastic roughly) and didn’t bother getting my name down spelled correctly for personalization. Had to take the paper from him to write and correct. Wish I bought from one of the ladies instead. I like this brand and own other items. This left an bad taste in my mouth. This guy totally didn’t deserve to be in the right place at the right time for whatever percentage of commission.

We recently bought a pair of Panama Wallets, 1 being a gift. On receipt, we queried the wallet to be gifted as it differed from the images online.Martina V at Smythson's Customer Service informed us it was an updated design, and that if we wanted the original Navy and Maroon-coloured one, they would be happy to exchange - as this was the specific one we wanted then we did so, the best part being that they offered a refund for a significant amount of the purchase.The recipient will be really pleased as they've had their eye on this for a while - Thanks Smythson, and particularly Martina.

Smythson has been my favorite stationery store for 20 years. My favorite products are the journals with this magical blue paper that works exceptionally well with fountain pens (and of course others). It is one of their signature items. I also find their note cards to be the best quality I have ever used.The in-store service is 1st class and the interior beautifully done. Their prices are high compared to companies like Crane but the quality is also superior in my view.I continue to go back for all of the above reasons and because sending cards from Smythson to the people who matter most to me, makes me feel wonderful. When we asked a lady whether they have a repair service, she told us very politely that she doesn't know and that she will ask her manager.The manager came.He was very ironic. He had an attitude, trying to humiliate us and make us feel as if we shouldn't be there, by highlighting all the negative aspects of the service (ooh it is going to take so long - 14 weeks

Very beautiful boutique, products of exceptional quality and very professional & polite staff. Unhurried, plenty of time to browse.

Nicely laid out store with a good selection of products. Staff friendly upstairs, but a two star review as I went downstairs to enquire about bespoke stationery with a family crest and, despite asking for advice, was entirely ignored. I suspect it was because I was on my way to the tennis club and was dressed in sportswear. I would advise Smythson to be rather less judgemental about these things. You don’t know who is in your shop, and I would advise treating all customers with respect. Staff upstairs were very polite, but this experience puts me off this brand.

Great options for luxury gifts. I'll be back for Xmas presents. Staff recommends and we're interested in what I needed for client gift.
