Camber Castle
It is located near the town of Rye, and is surrounded by cows and sheep. There is a lovely path leading to the castle all the way from Rye, which is a great way to get some fresh air and exercise. The castle itself is in ruins, but the views are stunning. The castle is also a great place to spot wildlife, such as birds, sheep, and cows.If you're looking for a quiet and natural place to visit, Camber Castle is a great option. It's a great place to relax and enjoy the outdoors.

Camber Castle
Absolutely fantastic. A real ruin full ofhistory and unsullied by well intentionedVictorians. Inside is a real insight as tothe workings of this extraordinary place.Tunnels, turrets, gun emplacements, andeven an Officer's Toilet. The guided touris very informative. From the town centreyou'll be there within the hour. Open onthe first Saturday of Aug, Sept and Oct.Proper footwear and a healthy walk. Inthe end it wasn't the French that beat theCastle but simply tides and nature.

Can't go inside anymore, no more guided tours, but you can go all around it and peak through the walls, ideally during the dry season because otherwise the footpaths can get muddy and unpleasant. Lots of sheep and sheep droppings around so watch your step!

Camber castle is not open all the time. It's open from August 1st to October 31st. I decided to do a walk from Rye to the Camber Castle last Tuesday (June 28, 2023), knowing the castle would be closed. From what I read online, the walk would be nice and peaceful. It was the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. I did the short walk, rather than the circular route to visit the castle. There were a ton of sheep along the path way. I ran into a couple of people on the way back, but it was mostly just me and sheep for most of the way there and back.I was doing a solo trip, so I was unsure how 'sketchy'or remote the hike would be, but when I got to the field, I felt pretty safe. There was a dirt path that led me most of the way to the castle from the hidden fence entrance.I'd recommend doing this walk if you have time. I wouldn't say it was challenging in terms of elevation as it was pretty flat. However, it might be a bit of a distance for older travellers and young kids. You'll want to wear appropriate shoes for the time of the year as I've read that it does get muddy, and when the sheep are out grazing, you'll want to dodge their poop mounds!

Did not go inside as it was closed. Really interesting piece of history. Set in the nature reserve. If you have a dog, please keep on lead as they have sheep grazing in the field. Please be prepared for the mud. We did the 6 mile walk from from near the discovery centre to the castle. In this weather there is very thick mud. I had to carry the dog through some fields.

We've been out here 3x times for a walk. It's nice and flat, it ends in some glorious ruins (you can see in but to get in you need a tour which runs only a few days per month and we've never been able to make that work), and it is through some lovely fields of sheep. Negatives: you're going to step in sheep poop, there is no getting around it -- don't wear your best shoes :D Bring suncream/hat/glasses in the summer as there's absolutely no shade.Particularly recommend coming at the golden hour as you will get some stunning sunset views across the flat fields full of sheep.

Really cool castle ruins. Park in Rye and enjoy a quiet walk through sheep pastures and around the canal to get to the castle. It is only open part of the year, but you get a view of most of it by walking around the perimeter and looking through the grating on the doors and windows. Plenty of places to drop a blanket for a picnic lunch, or, when things open more, a couple km walk to the shops and restaurants in town.

Beautiful old ruin that you can walk to from Rye (it’s a bit of a hike, but on a nice day it is well worth it). There are no facilities and given the state of the ruin, it’s only viewable from the outside, but you can peak in through the gate to get a nice view. Very few visitors when we were there in early June. I recommend walking past the castle and checking out the bird hide that sits on the water a little to the east.

Love this place. In the middle of nowhere and not many people about so you have the place almost to yourselves when there. You can't get inside now but can look through the bars on the doors and windows to get an idea of how it is built. Can walk right around the outside...A real piece of history. If you struggle to get about them give yourself a bit of extra time as it's a walk whichever way you come in from but the ground is mainly flat.

Lovely place to visit. We went on a Friday afternoon but unfortunately it was closed. Only opens on the first Saturday of every month and this wasn’t stated on the English Heritage app or website. Only mentions it’s guided tours only. Also it’s a long walk from the car, through a sheep pasture, along farm tracks to get to the castle. However when you get there it’s views are amazing. Can see Rye castle from camber castle
