Great place and architecture. Good for short walks or to take your children's with you. Views are breathtaking. I would rather say it a Man-made nature. Beautiful!

This quirky little bridge was opened in 1876, and is the fourth bridge to be built on this site (the first was constructed by the Roman Emperor Hadrian around 120AD). It's open to motor traffic and also has a pedestrian walkway that felt a bit bouncy to walk on! Would have loved to see this bridge swing open, but it's currently out of action due to technical problems. However it was worth walking across to enjoy the great views of the other bridges and the castle keep. An interesting feat of Victorian engineering.

Much better than the other bridge for a walk. Great views of the other bridge and looks good at night which lighting. Cycle friendly and wheelchair friendly

Lovely bridge, one of my favourites for crossing the Tyne on foot or by car. It opens too, for big boats and coal ships.

Interesting to watch it open and close. A child was given the honour over pressing the buttons to do it.nice touch. Gives great access to both sides of the river and is a lovely walk between Newcastle venues and no vehicular traffic about. Right next to eating and drinking premises on the riverside and close to city centre.
