Kick Ass Greyfriars

The bed was comfortable and the room was clean. You get to pick a bed and there's a locker right beside it (but bring a lock). There are stairs to get to the bedrooms!Don't forget to take your towel. The showers don't have continuous flow (you have to press to start the flow that lasts about 30s, I'd say), but were usually clean. Plus, there is a hair dryer there.I didn't have breakfast there, but did see bread, coffee, ham and cheese and yogurt.The hostel also has a restaurant for non guests, and I guess it has a huge focus on it, because I didn't find it very welcoming to guests to meet while staying there. There is basically one very small common area, close to the reception and far from the rooms.The staff were overall very friendly and helpful.

This hostel is a prime location. You are in the middle of the centre and everything is within walking distance. The rooms are very clean and staff is friendly. Visited during Fringe and even though it was hectic and busy, it was calm enough inside the hostel to relax and sleep.my only suggestion is to add hooks in the rooms for jackets and towels. :)

As a first time hostel visitor, Kickass Greyfriars was an excellent introduction to hostelling. Front desk staff were mostly helpful and very limited waiting time. Bar staff were excellent and Pub quiz was good fun. The location is prime, close to all the attractions as well as many pubs and restaurants. The other guests were generally very respectful of each other and no one was overly noisy. Never had to wait to use a shower or toilet. My only recommendations would be to wear light pajamas as the 30 person dorm can get quiet toasty (get a bed by the windows if possible) and to bring earplugs! While other guests were quiet, noise comes in from the street even in the early hours of the morning.

Great hostel to stay in for the price! Stayed in a mixed room and was lovely! Bed was comfy and had access to charge port. Locker available (can use your own lock or purchase one from reception along with ear plugs) facilities really clean! Was up early to have a shower and no complaints. Nice quiet room called the tree house to.Ideal for exploring and is in the photogenic old town area! Well worth the money!

Nice Hostel, was here for 3 nights over a weekend. Room and showers were clean. In a great location, only a few mins away from main town centre.We had a room for 8, which was big enough for what we needed. Would definately stay again next time I am up.

Ace place. Great vibe. Decent service.Remember this is ultimately a backpackers hostel, so expect shared bedrooms and bathrooms, etc.The bar area is really cool and funky.Location is ideal for exploring the city.

Positive: One of the best hostels I've stayed at. I really enjoyed the city and my stay. Excellent location, the bedroom and bathroom were very clean. They had a locker.Negative: The light in the bathroom turned off automatically, so when I was having a shower, suddenly I was in total darkness. Because the sensor didn't caption my movement. I finished my shower in the dark.And in my bedroom there was a big window and that's why it was very light inside the room.

Definitely THE BEST HOSTEL I have ever stayed.The location is excellent, it is really close to everything!The staff was super friendly. They let me leave my backpack before my check-in.When I made my reservation in Booking, it said that it was a 30 beds room, but when I arrived they gave me a bed in an 8 beds room, I was the first one in the room so I could choose my bed. The room was spacious and super clean, I loved it. The bathroom was also amazing and clean. The showers were of a great size, and one thing that I found super cool was that they are designed to save water. Also, there is a space to get dressed.There is no kitchen in this branch, but they let you use the kitchen in the other branch (Grassmarket) that's really close to this one, and again...the kitchen is big enough and has all the necessary stuff to cook.

Really great location and the rooms are clean, the bar is nice as well but the dorms are quite crowded and a pretty tight fit. If you plan to stay here, opt for a more expensive one. Also no privacy curtains which was a massive disadvantage imo. Overall a nice experience though.

Smashing experience on the West wing. Great staff and well secure. Fidel Castro on the door made sure all was in order. Very good at letting people pop out in the night if needed. My friend darth enjoyed the beds he was always in it. Really good how they allowed a chair to be brought up to assist us with a TLC match on the Saturday night. It was just amazing. Really good laminate flooring also and a smashing window to look out from. Thank you for an amazing stay. We will be back
