The Optimist
Called in on Sunday evening around 6p.m, pleased to discover food was still being served. Expectations were not that high given that the football was on the TV screens and quite loud but....the staff were very helpful and friendly, food was very good, tasted freshly prepared and reasonably priced. Overall we were very impressed, we had been to a performance at The Royal and Derngate and stumbled across the the Optimist looking for a quick meal. Only reasons for not full 5 stars...... No soap in ladies restroom and one of the hand driers didn't work, one of the urinals was blocked, the first 3 meals my husband asked for were not available and the TV was quite loud ( that is a personal preference of course!) .We would definitely visit again. Having some gluten free rolls on offer for chicken burgers or similar would be great too.

Brilliant staff and a friendly atmosphere, we come here all the time and I couldn't recommend anywhere better. Leon was great and Ellie was incredible with attention to detail! Josh poured us a great pint. One of the best pubs in Northampton

We come here often as NLS and the staff is very accommodating and friendly. We often get both food and drink and the service is always excellent. This has become our go to venue for society social events including our board games night and they are always happy for us to takeover a table to play. We definitely recommend!

Leon and his team are fantastic. The menu is your usual pub grub. Drinks are not extortionate and you can have a great night out.

Managed to get a table big enough to accommodate a party of 8 people. Ordered via the app but waited more than 20 mins for our drinks as the order had gone to the kitchen only but had not been picked up by the bar so I had to chase this up. However there was no additional delay to food. We were sat away from main bar area but there was music and a good vibe to the place. (Originally thought it was live music from where we we sat but have been corrected lol). Hearty food and good kids selection too.

Visited The Optimist a few weeks ago but quite not an optimistic experience.During my walk in the town centre, I was tempted to try this place because of its chic exteriors and I was quite impressed the day I visited by its interiors too. Though it is very quiet for lunch, it surely gives off some good and cozy vibes.I went for the calamari strips as starter which was so crunchy, crispy and tasty with the tartare sauce.As the main course, I wanted to try the burger and opted for the chargrilled chicken fillet, which came with curly fries and slaw. The burger is served in a toasted brioche-style linseed bun with a signature burger sauce, lettuce and red onion but much to my disappointment, the fillet was quite dry with barely no sauce.On a good note, the service is satisfactory and rapid.Overall rating - 2.5/5

Had lunch here for a brilliant price and large portion. Service was excellent particularly from Leon who was very welcoming! Overall atmosphere was lovely and will be definitely coming here again.

Staff were amazing and so helpful. The area we had was brilliant to celebrate a 30th couldn’t have asked for better service. Well done to the whole team at the optimist for helping make my husbands 30th unforgettable.
