Holiday Inn Darlington - A1 Scotch Corner, an IHG Hotel

Top marks for location. After that, it went downhill. A booking made online (booking reference given to receptionist) 'could not be found'?? Eventually, she found it. Her attitude made me think about walking out and driving to another hotel. WE were wrong! Not her! She huffed and puffed over 'helping' us. Clearly we were an inconvenience. Not exactly positive customer service. Once we got to our room, we found that none of the sockets had usb (we had brought adapters). The work/dressing table was dark, the main room light did not cover this area!?? No other light available. One of our party needed to work, we ended up using our torch to see to write! No lighting in the tea/coffee station. Double room with 1 bath towel?? Really, if you are dog tired and just need sleep, this hotel is OK. If you need to work or dry your hair etc while seeing what you are doing, STAY ELSEWHERE.POSITIVE note...the bar and restaurant were very nice. Light, clean, airy and tasty food.Honestly apart from the restaurant and bar we have had way better facilities at a Travelodge or Premier Inn. Not what we expected from Holiday Inn. Disappointing really.

One of the best hotels we've stayed in.The room was good. It was nice to see that the plastic beakers have been replaced by glass and that the bottles of shampoo etc have been taken out of the bathrooms. Everything was clean and tidy.The public rooms were well up to standard.The price of drinks in the bar was reasonable - not exorbitant.Lastly, the dinner and breakfast were excellent.Altogether, we had a very pleasant stay.

Hotel located near the round about but it is quiet on a night, even with the window open.Breakfast is the best I've experienced at any hotel anywhere in the world. The evening menu is also good with fantastic food served at very good prices.The hotel gym/Spa is very good for a hotel. It is also open to the public but does not get too busy. Saunas, large pool, yoga studio, gym room available.Hotel staff are very friendly and helpful and make you feel at home. Nothing is an issue.Hotel itself is tired and needs some work in places but overall not bad. New TV's in every room, so you can now chrome cast etc.

Ideally located just off the motorway, great stop over. Reception was smooth and friendly, and the room for 2 adults was first class with warm heating / air con. Clean comfortable bed. Great shower. Coffee/tea facility. We had dinner, and it was reasonable only a slight fly in the ointment was slower than expected food delivery (may have been staff issue) but a bit too long. Car parking was free with room and plenty spaces. All in all, a good experience and a highlight was the first class breakfast. Recommended

Great hotel, lovely clean room, brilliant breakfast and heated indoor pool! Staff friendly and helpful. Great for local attractions - Barnard Castle - yes the one made famous by a visit to an opticians! Richmond - lovely town and castle or a good way to break up a long journey
