We were a group of 4 vegetarians who went for dinner here at babooji on a sultry Saturday. The restaurant is on the high street, easily accessible. It has a nice Indian theme to it. We had sweet chaipa beer, corn cold salad, papri chat, mushroom tandoori, paneer tikka, corn and potato vada ( fried). And for the main course we ordered, Goan spicy curry ( this one was really spicy), Dal makhani ( too sweet, it's not supposed to be that sweet) and pindi choley ( didn't have the right spices) with naan and pilau rice. We ordered one sizzling chocolate brownie for desserts ( shown in the photos). Overall taste was average, not great for the Indian spice pallette. It also had less salt in all its items. The beer was good and it was unique. Sadly it didn't meet our expectations greatly. You can give it a try if you want to taste something different.

Had aloo chat and samosa chat taste and quality both were good. It is a busy place on the weekends hence better to book a table. It has a nice Bollywood theme atmosphere

Tried this place on our weekend away to Bournemouth. Table booked for 6pm on a Friday. Staff and food was great. Their own brand canned beer was excellent, but way way overpriced for a can of beer. We would have stayed longer and ordered more food and drinks, but the restaurant was just too cold. They also had a weird selection of music for the first hour and then played indian music, which I do prefer when visiting these types of restaurants.

Really delicious South Indian style food! As a vegan it was brilliant having so many options to choose from, as almost everything on the menu is vegan. I much prefer this kind of food which just happens to be vegan, to vegan burgers and other imitation products. The masala dosa was particularly excellent, as was the spicy Goan vegetable curry. My partner, who is a meat eater, said it was one of the best meals he’s ever eaten and we’re planning to return the next time we’re in the area.Prices are surprisingly reasonable, especially for a seaside town, and the service was excellent. The fact that the place was absolutely jam packed by the time we finished is clearly testament to its popularity with locals.

When I think of Indian cuisine I envisage fragranced, rich curries served in generous portions. Although the food had good flavour, the portion sizes were too small and dainty when compared to the price. Without doubt the highlight of the meal were the crispy gunpowder fries which came with amazing curry mayo (I would take a whole bottle home if I could!). The paneer makhani tasted and looked suspiciously like the instant packets produced by Ashoka (the paneer cubes were also unnecessarily tiny). The naan was thin and the vegetable biryani adequate. We decided not to order the dosa after seeing its tiny size on another table. Service was friendly but a bit slow despite the restaurant being at less than half capacity. Some of the servers were eating and watching World Cup football on their laptop instead of paying attention to the patrons. The western pop music being played was also out of character for the restaurant.Dress code: casualCost: ££Service: friendly but painfully slowAmbience: challenging

I’ve never written a bad review about an independent restaurant before but I feel like I’ve been robbed! I’d been to Baboo Ji for a dine in a month or so ago and we had some average food, it was nice but nothing particularly special. I thought maybe I ordered the wrong things so last night we ordered a takeaway on Deliveroo instead and were charged £40 for portions I’d expect to pay £15 for. Again the food was OK but the portions left me feeling a bit robbed - especially when the size of them in comparison to ones friends had ordered in the past was totally different. The attached photos is what in total cost £40. I don’t think I’ll be returning to give Baboo Ji another chance, sadly.

Lovely staff, very accommodative and fantastic chef. Chef literally came out multiple times to ensure that the food he cooked for us is hot enough, tastes good and if we liked the flavours.

Really lovely experience. I have allergies and the chef came out and explained what I could/couldn’t have/made up a main I could. Very very tasty. Lovely to see real passion going into the food and really good service. Would highly recommend meat-eaters to go and see if they miss the meat. For veggies/vegans it’s a no brainer
