Astor York

if you’re looking for a hostel that feels more like a home than just a bed for a night, this is the hostel for you. I had such a fun and memorable experience at astor york. the building was so homey and staff so lovely i couldn’t help but extend my stay! with a comfortable common area, a beautiful spacious garden, a huge kitchen/dining room and a bright bedroom i would recommend this hostel to everyone. it was the staff who made me feel the most welcome though… a huge thank you to Louise, Dave, Matt, Lulu, Ash, Cooper and Pat who all went the extra mile to ensure i was comfortable and enjoying my stay in york. the best hostel i’ve stayed at for sure.

I stayed over as a stop to use the University Library as a research student since i no longer lived in York and needed somewhere to sleep before heading out to work early in the day. Nice hostel-very neat and the kitchen made available and other facilities like microwave, access to hot water for tea or coffee was a great treat. It really helped. My only challenge was that couldn't stay in my room to study on my bed since the bed bunks are really close and roommates snored all night so could hardly sleep-lolx. I loved the fact that it's safe, great location close to the train station and cigarette smoking was controlled even in the mixed hostel. It's a very reasonable spot when you are on a short trip with a tight budget.

Loved the vibe of this hostel- very clean and the facilities were well taken care of. Even offered free coffee. The staff were also really kind and helpful. Will stay here again next time I’m in York.

A very welcoming friendly place. The staff couldn't have done more for me. It was extremely well run. Everything that you would need in a hostel. Large clean kitchen, a comfortable lounge ,garden with tables, large eating area, bar. Tea and coffee freely available.I was a bit worried about my possesions whilst sleeping. No problem each bunk had a metal basket underneath. I had no need to use as my companions were great. The mattress was a bit firm for me and I would have preferred a larger pillow but I still slept well. Shelves and hanging space and ensuite facilities completed the room. Simple breakfast £ 3.50What more could you want in a hostel.

we actually didn’t stay here. we arrived, dropped our bags in our room and then immediately picked them up and left again. The smell in the 8 bed dorm room was absolutely revolting. This needs to be dealt with as it would have been unbearable to spend a night in. Service over the phone before hand to arrange parking was really helpful. Location ok, about 20 minute walk to central york, but a very pretty walk.

Very friendly place to stay. Staff helpful and mixed with guests and some neighbours in the little bar and outside spaces. Well equipped open plan kitchen, with free tea, coffee and diluted juice. Nice dining area and lounge with lots of books and a guitar. Bedroom small but ok for price. Being en suite was good. Note: outside steps and indoor stairs with no lifts, but attentive staff, particularly whoever is in reception, keep an eye open and are quick to offer help.All of York is full of character. Location is very pleasant. In a quiet area. 2 km or so to town centre but locals are helpful at pointing out shortcuts and walk enjoyable. Only a few metres to small convenience store. 1 km to well stocked mini supermarket.Enjoyed stay. Would go back.

For the price, it's hard to beat this hostel. The communal areas such as the lounge and kitchen are clean, well kept and very inviting. The bedrooms are comfortable although perhaps a little mediocre. However I had a good night's sleep, and I can't fault the very friendly and enthusiastic start who are tripping over themselves to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. Thanks to Ash on the front desk who helped check us out and was very professional with his assistance. I'd come back and stay here again based on all the staffs welcoming attitude, and the price vs value for money on offer.Thanks again!

I loved staying here! The lounge is especially comfy and cozy which is unique. Staff were all super nice and accommodating. I chose this hostel because I had a great experience at it's sister hostel in London. This chain seems to be really well managed and in very cool old buildings. Thanks for the lovely stay!

Wonderful! I was here in a single room for 3 nights and this was one of my favorite places I have ever stayed. The room was great, a little small, hence the 4 stars but I was very happy with it…..and the shower was amazing! The staff were delightful. It is located at a bus stop which makes it easy to get into town. I will be staying here again.

Good location. Went here for a girls get together weekend . Catch up and have fun . We got a shared room for the five of us . They put a stranger in with us . Fair enough that was our fault we didn't realise . So ok. But after being out on the night we came back and still wanted to chat .but as we had the extra person we didn't want to disturb her, so we went to sit in the communal areas . It's like a library day and night . We felt very out of place and unwanted so we went out side . Where asked to move from there too, and where told at 1am that if we wanted there was a bus shelter we could sit in out front " !.felt very unwelcome. It's more a place for students ..and they should advertise it as that . Very quiet . If your looking for a fun weekend I wouldn't recommend .. does not look as nice as it does in the pictures our bed where held together with tape in places ."
