Hardy’s Traditional Fish & Chips

This is probably the best fish and chips we ever tried. Portions are huge, fish is very fresh and crispy and the chips is just as it must be. Prices affordable for everyone. The owners of the shop super friendly and kind. Highly recommend that place as its very rare to find a good quality food nowadays.

The best chippy around for many, many miles! In fact, one of the very best you will ever come across. Usually go there during Friday lunchtime. Very tasty, chunky, authentic hand-cut chips. Delicious and freshly cooked battered fish. Large portions. Great service with a smile. What more can you ask for? Just wish they were open 24/7!!!

I love Hardys fish and chips but they rip you off on prices for delivery the add a massive extra cost if yoh have a delivery despite charging a fee for delivery so no excuse just gouging people so large chips to collect is £4 but £6 if delivered plus the delivery charge thios is greed and they must be losing money with their greedy attitude

OK, so it's not McDermott's, but then no other chippy in the South London is... what it is is reasonable priced, plenty tasty, fish & chips.When we first moved to South Croydon a couple of years ago I would drive 15 mins to McDermott's every week or so for our semi-regular fish & chips. One time I went on a Monday, forgetting that they're closed then. Annoyed and still wanting to fish & chips, I searched maps and found Village Fish & Chips, which is actually much closer for us... and it was good! So good that I don't bother with that 15 minute drive any more. If we have guests from afar, then we make a special trip to McD's, but for the regular chippy visit, Villiage hits the spot just fine.Some notes for those wondering - you can't eat in, it's take away only, though there are a handful of chairs to sit on while you wait. Our usual order is haddock, cod or scampi, all of which are usually tasty & fresh with good batter. They very occasionally have a somewhat sub-par week, but it's a rarity. Chips are maybe a 7 or 8 out of 10 - could be a little better, but still very nice. Prices are good (see my photos for the menu board as of December 2017).

Some of the best fish and chips I've ever had, and I've devoted a worrying proportion of my life trying to find it!

First time here. Forgot my glasses and couldn't read the menu that told me pensioner's got discount. Ordered two cod and chips,but didn't have enough cash on me. Had to borrow £1 from another customer. (That was nice). The meal was excellent and very generous in its portion size. Obviously bigger for younger people! Will go again and try the pensioner portion. Was disappointed when girls called out old age pensioner's fish and chips" .Would prefer to be called a Senior Citizen."

First time ordering from Hardy’s since moving to the area. Took ages to come. BUT i have to say… sooo worth the wait. Best fish and chips we’ve had! So fresh and crispy, perfect chips, not wet and soggy. Can understand why you’re so busy. Would 100% order again, just a little earlier :)

Food is perfectly fine. The service is okay. Wasn't particularly friendly, but was polite enough. The shop was cold on a wet, windy night with the door not closing and staying closed. The staff member was even wearing a jacket.

Soooo expensive and really not great quality. The owner had such a bad attitude and was actually quite rude and the lady at the till had no idea what scampi was. The scampi was basically ADSA quality, poured out of a packet and fried to death. There was about a pea sized amount of scampi in the batter. The cod was quite big, but expensive and the batter wasn't great. The chip portions were huge but under cooked. The large sausage was the cheapest quality I've ever seen and the chicken burger was a processed patty much like you can buy at Aldi. Will never get food from there again.
