Schoolhouse Restaurant & Hotel

My second visit with my partner for a pre Valentine's meal.... Food was to a very high standard and absolutely delicious. Beautiful and unique setting. Very cosy old building with real character. Karen who served us was exceptional in customer service and super friendly. The icing on the cake was the infamous Fred the gentle pooch who kept us company whilst we dined. I cannot recommend the Old School House enough.... A real gem within the vicinity of Swindon. First class!!!!!!!!

For two adults and a young child this was fine. We were greeted just before 10pm and met the dog who was very friendly. Would've been nice to get a drink but bed time for a family anyway. It's a good building and far enough from the M4 not to be noisy. Room could've done with a little more colour; drinks, swankier bathroom, mini bar? Breakfast was superb though!

The building and it's interior are in need of TLC the hotel if updated would bring in more business and the restaurant menu needs to be scaled down. The food was presented well, but let down by a chef that really had a poor palette. The lady owner of the hotel was really lovely and friendly and a very good host.

Don't be fooled by the exterior charm, it doesn't last past the reception area. The bedrooms was nothing short of shabby. We were talked into the 2-day package and when our plans changed, we were charged the full price for a meal we didn't have and a night's stay. Food mediocre at best. I had the fish and it had all the earmarks of being cooked from frozen. Would not recommend

Such a lovely place to stay! We booked very last minute and although we weren't able to book into the restaurant for dinner as we arrived so late, we were offered a simplified menu that felt anything but simple! A beautiful and comfortable room, with excellent standards of hygiene and clearly taking good COVID precautions, which also meant we got to enjoy our hearty breakfast in bed. We even got to meet the charming Fred, who along with the proprietor made us feel very welcome indeed. Would thoroughly recommend.

What a fun and quirky experience. Owned and run by Fred the loveable dog, whom is well supported by his human employees. The location is a good launchpad for both the Southern Cotswold and the North Wessex Downs. Well worth a visit of you're looking for something a little different.

We always enjoy our stays at the Schoolhouse Restaurant and Hotel; for excellent food, a warm welcome and good value for money you can't beat it!! Will definitely return soon!!

Absolutely disgusting behaviour by this hotel. My partner booked a room for her father as he is elderly and not computer literate. The hotel demanded that my partner was present at the hotel for the stay to go ahead. Both myself and partner do not live locally to the hotel so this is not possible. They cancelled the rooms and refused to give a refund despite my partners elderly father and extended family now having no where to stay (despite them already travelling miles to the hotel). This has ruined a family gathering. I don't understand why the hotel would not accept credit card and ID from my partners father, considering the room has already been paid for. I can tell you as a business traveller that this is not the norm. I have never experienced such ludicracy at the The Marriot or any other hotel I have stayed in. This type of pedantic behaviour will lose you business and you have now lost 10 future customers. On a final note, I have to question the behaviour here. I won't go as far as saying this is casual racism, but I will say that my partners surname may have played a part in their behaviour. Having working within the fraud investigation industry, this policy does not hold water at all. Use at your own peril.

Would visit again wonderful host and best burger I've had in a long time

was booked in here last night by my firm,went to reception and was told they don't take 3rd party bookings and they had cancelled my room unless I paid for it on my own card,why be on booking .com if that's the case, we only use booking. com, left and found a nice place in Swindon who do take my firms 3rd party card
