Ideal location as we were hiking Scarfell Pike the following morning. Having a car is essential so you have been warned as taxis are limited. The staff at the Pennington were wonderful and always helpful. The hotel is warm and cosy, and the rooms were very nice. Overall it was a great stay for us and can recommend this hotel as a short stay.

Very nice place, hotel has lovely grounds, didn't stay over just dropping passengers off, isolated and need a car to go places.

A nice place to start or end the Roman Ruins walk in Ravenglass. The hotel lounge has a nice bar with good coffees, fine service and a decent beer selection. Nice patio. Cozy inside. We didn't stay here so I can't speak to the rooms.

What a hidden gem. We stayed for 1 night and also took our 2 dogs. We had a lovely view of the estery. Although our room was at the front, we slept with our window open and not heard a peep! What a beautiful quiet location. The room was spacious with a very large bed, tea/coffee facilities. There is a large grass area just across the road so you don't have to go far to take the dogs for a walk. It would've been nice to have a fan in the room as it was quite a hot sticky night and also some information in the room regarding breakfast/the restaurant options. We would definitely stay again if we are ever in the area again.

Upon arrival we were met by an empty reception. The instructions left by a phone asked us to ring for assistance. Eventually a member of staff appeared, very half hearted in attitude and told us where to park and to return later as our room wasn't ready. We were in room 8. It had issues, the toilet continually filled up which was a little noisy at night, the bathroom fan didn't work, the shower head had to be placed in the bath as it too continually leaked water. The bedside light had a faulty connection so didn't stay switched on, the window surround was dirty with peeling paint. The room was small, we could not leave our cases open, there was only enough room to walk around the bed. The first morning we went to breakfast, the buffet was limited, hardly any tinned fruit left, the fruit juice was running low as was the milk. A member of staff came to take our cooked order, but we didn't have a menu on the table. We placed the order but 20 minutes later we were still waiting. The same staff member asked if everything was ok. We told her we'd not received our breakfast, she was very sorry and retook our order. It appeared that there were staffing issues, but frustrating when you could see staff walking past tables that needed clearing and not replenishing the buffet table. The lady who served us probably didn't realize but she kept sighing very loudly as she walked by - clearly stressed! We had a Cumbrian breakfast, the sausage was the thinnest sausage I've ever seen, if there was one spoon of baked beans that's all there was and the egg was over done - it all felt very sparse and kept to a small budget. The next morning the service was slightly better, but this morning was terrible! We waited 20 minutes eventually my husband went to find someone to take our order. A member of staff at the reception desk tried to direct him to the breakfast room, when my husband told him he knew where the room was but needed serving the member of staff replied that he didn't know he was there and needed serving - the attitude was shockingly bad! No apology or an attempt to improve the situation.. But when we were eventually served by a sour faced young woman with minimal social skills, I understood that the contempt and apathy for customers was an ingrained attitude adopted by the majority of the staff! Again, the breakfast was underwhelming and as we'd waited so long neither of us felt very much like eating. We gave our feedback when checking out but again the receptionist wasn't too concerned, didn't apologise, and I'm sure what he wrote down went in the bin as soon as we left.Pennington

Only had a meal here, nice hotel in a great location, friendly, attentive and helpful staff. The food was a little disappointing far from bad, but did not seem to match the general standards of the hotel.
