Springfield Country Hotel Leisure Club & Spa
This is not what I’d expect of a ‘country house hotel’ despite them claiming its ‘everything you would expect and a little bit more’.The walkway to the hotel and the outside area are generally very pleasant. Then it starts to go down hill. We were greeted by multiple tacky ‘we buy gold, cash paid today’ banners - classy! There was only one person checking people in and dealing with gym memberships while two others sat at computers showing no interest in waiting guests, make the process both slow and frustrating. We’d booked what is apparently one of their nicest rooms, the executive room. In reality it was little more than a travel lodge style room. It had an old, small tv, a tatty sofa, a light / fan that looked like something from the 70s, no artwork and nothing to give it any character at all. The website makes it sound like there will either be a king size bed or 3 x single beds, in reality there was 1 double bed. The one positive was the bathroom. We were offered an alternative executive room, it was no better. We had higher hopes for the spa. We picked up towels and locker keys at reception. At that point the person on reception saw that my wife was using a wheelchair. My wife doesn’t walk too well but communicates perfectly well so it was somewhat offensive when the person on reception looked at me and asked, ‘do you want a locker key for her too?’ Rather than asking ‘her’ if she wanted a locker key.We got to the pool area to discover that the door to the pool was locked and the only options were to go through the mens or womens changing rooms. I went back to reception to ask if the door could be unlocked, only to be told that I was meant to go through the men’s changing rooms. I asked if I should push my wife through the men’s changing rooms and he said, ‘no, she needs to use the women’s changing rooms’…. Slightly exasperated I asked if I should push her through the women’s changing rooms? In the end someone else came back round to the spa area with me and found another member of staff. We explained that we needed the door unlocking to get to the pool to which they said, ‘I’m not allowed to unlock that door’. ‘So how do you want us to get to the pool?’ I asked, admittedly slightly sarcastically by this point? In the end they did finally unlock the door.Once in the pool it has the potential to be a really nice place but it was let down by things like the large line of dirt along the pool steps, missing covers on the pool inlets and a general sense that there hasn’t been much focus on upkeep.Back to the room, we discovered that the walls are paper thin. We didn’t particularly want to hear the bath next door being filled and we certainly didn’t want to hear the people next door using the toilet… but we did! Not pleasant. Finally, when we came to check out this morning there was nobody on reception. We waited quite a while before finally giving up and going to find someone in the restaurant to help us.On a positive note the restaurant team were really friendly and helpful and the breakfast was very nice.So really not so much ‘country house hotel and a little bit more’ but oversold, dated, underwhelming and seriously lacking in disability awareness.I shared this review with the hotel before posting given it’s not positive. Unsurprisingly I haven’t heard back. I wonder what that says about their interest in disability awareness?

The hotel was a bit quiet but that suited us. Took full advantage of the pool, sauna, and steam room. There was always enough for breakfast choices of teas, coffee's, and juices, plenty of cereals, and a good selection of cooked breakfasts. Good choices from the bar snacks menu. The room was elegant, warm, and spacious. Plenty to fill you time by visiting attractions and restaurants.

Nice comfortable room. Just missing a chair but not a big deal.Breakfast was included in my booking and was nice and good service.Otherwise food was expensive so got a takeaway for dinner.Bit pricey but didn’t get time to try out the facilities.Would stay again if I’m in the area.

The hotel is looking quite tired & some areas very dated. The staff are friendly. Food in restaurant very disappointing & underwhelming. Returned food & breakfast with no apology or items taken off our bill. My friend was ill on the 2nd night after dinner. Spa is not really of a high standard & lots of services not available (coming soon) Beds very uncomfortable, & neither of us slept very well due to this. Shower/water pressure almost non existent. Wifi signal poor & kept disconnecting. Only plus points were the room was spacious with a nice view & the staff were friendly. This was very expensive for a very substandard stay,Sadly, we were very disappointed & won't be returning.

The staff were very friendly but unfortunately there’s not much else positively I can say. The food was absolutely abysmal. I can honestly say it is the worst food I’ve ever eaten in my life and sadly that’s no exaggeration. The majority of food is microwaved and the vegetables were clearly frozen. I ordered a medium rare stake and it was medium-well at a push. No seasoning and it came with boiled potatoes, boiled carrots, sprouts and broccoli that was clearly frozen. Another lady ordered fish and remarked she had never seen sprouts served with fish. It seems they were the only vegetables on offer. Starter and desert clearly not made fresh. Their website states everything is cooked fresh…maybe if by fresh they mean microwaved that day. We were able to get through a three course meal in an hour including ordering and drinking a bottle of wine. The room was ok, but we were in an executive with a small double bed. The sofa’s ‘leather’ effect was peeling off and covered by a sofa cover but left black debris all over the floor. The floor under the sink was a lot darker in colour than the rest of the bathroom leading me to think it hadn’t been cleaned properly if at all. The pool facilities don’t really match up with how I would imagine a spa to be. The changing rooms were from the 70s and the cubicle doors had an inch gap either side so you could see straight into them when the door was closed giving no privacy. The floor by the steps to the jacuzzi was covered in cement dust and our feet were filthy. The whole place clearly needs a refurbishment. It’s such a shame as the staff are very friendly and the hotel is beautiful in some places. If the food hadn’t have been so bad, our whole experience would have been better.

This hotel is in a beautiful location, the outside is well designed and very calming and nice to take a walk around in. The gardens, greenery and just the layout of the hotel is quite pretty. The staff are friendly too.So I stayed a night and the room was clean but incredibly stuffy, no air conditioning, the bathroom was clean but the water was extremely hot or extremely cold and had no setting to function the shower with warm water.I went down for breakfast and there was a cockroach on a plate when I picked it up to serve myself breakfast!! The hygiene was a major concern. It’s not up to the standards of a 3-Star hotel. So I ended up leaving and finding a local cafe to get my breakfast.Their squash court and pools are all dried out, overgrown weeds and just not maintained apart from the lawn. Nothing like what it looks like in the pictures from that side of things around the back of the hotel.I hope they refurbish this place and address the cleanliness and aged feel to it because it has so much potential.
