Oh my gosh the bread is out of this world! Don't be fooled by things that look basic, they are all delicious! The ladies that work there have some great recommendations too. Fab service.

I have been supporting Cakes and Bakes ever since it has opened.Been having a million soups coming every day.I loved the practicability of the soup, having it in a take away cup and be able to have a walk during lunch.I have also recommended the place to all my colleagues at work.Since cakes and bakes have moved into the main building, I've been sadly disappointed with the customer service and rudeness of the staff.There was a change in the containers and the usually drink cups are no longer offered, instead a bowl like container is offered along with the attached spoon which I hope can everyone agree it makes it hard to 'eat' the soup.I have asked the lady at the counter if I can kindly have the drink takeaway cup instead of the bowl like container.She rudely said no.I offered to pay extra for a takeaway cup.She again rudely said no.I asked to pay for a coffee just to get the cup! She finally accepted.Ended up paying £3.20 for my soup, all worth because of the quality.Next time I asked for a tea no water so make it cheaper.Since I am struggling with money decide to buy a reusable cup so I don't burn the money that I pay for a tea/coffee just for the takeaway cup.When I wanted to pay for the soup after having added the soup to my reusable cup (trying to avoid waste and create less rubbish and do my bit to save the planet just as most of coffee places let you bring your own reusable cup to ) the lady said again that I cannot do that, and I've asked her why and she couldn't give me a reason.And I said okay I will know for the next time.I really wanted to avoid to leave a bad review but it makes me sad that this place that I used to come with joy in my lunch break has lost its great customer service.At the previous place was a very kind gentleman who was always polite and always happy to be working there, otherwise this lady working here now seems annoyed every time she has a customer.She dropped a takeaway cup on the floor the other day and snapped.I'm not sure if she is like this because she might be requiring extra help at lunch or what, but I hope management would bring Cakes and Baked to what used to be.Also previous could get a soup when I got all my stamps, apparently not now.Sad times.

Good selection of cakes, helpful in supporting student development.I dropped one star as the coffee is from a machine. Can't the UCB train people to become baristas??

Its opening varies especially out of term time so worth checking the website. But it's a great place for great and cheap bread and cakes. The selection changes daily which is nice though can mean they don't always have what you're looking for.

Extremely poor service!!!! As a previous student of UCB many years ago, I decides to pop in on Tuesday to purchase some pastries. The lady at the till must have thought I was a little student as her service was non existent. Not a eye contact. No hello. In fact she was tooo lazy to even tell me the total of my goods!! I deliberately stayed silent to see if she will utter a word. Instead she just pointed to the price on the packAppalling service and I will be writing a formal complaint as this is no way to treat a paying customer.

I actually bought something there to wait for my bus, and no one asked if I were a student while buying, but we're quick to ask if I was a student while sitting and eating what I bought from there store.They are insensitive and I'll not recommend anyone visiting as if you aren't a student you'll not be valued no matter how much you spend

Had 15 minutes before I needed to catch my bus. The man behind the counter was incredibly nice and said to wait for the soup to arrive while it should be amazing; it was amazing soup. The man called the catering company twice to make sure I got my soup before my bus left. Service of the highest standard.

Great selection of student-made treats at vert reasonable prices, and even better when you get the discounts at the end of the day! The soup is really good, and it's hard to find good soup for lunch around here.
