The Hopping Hare
The Hopping Hare is in a rather strange position on the outskirts of Northampton surrounded by houses and probably used to be a village location. But don't let that put you off. There is plenty of parking space, and when we arrived there was a friendly greeting and we were shown immediately to a table. At first there were not many other guests, but by the end of the evening the places was busy with a pleasant hum of conversation and laughter. The menu was decent although we weren't inspired by the choice of starters as we were looking for something simple. The main courses on the other hand were mostly good standard fare and three of us chose the Fish and Chips and one the Cottage Pie. The F & C was well cooked, crispy not soggy and the chips were the same so no complaints. The Cottage Pie was also tasty and well presented. We then moved on to desserts and the selection was much more to our liking than the starters and we weren't disappointed. I had the Dark Chocolate Mousse and the rest of the party enjoyed the Raspberry Parfait all of which were very good. The service throughout the meal was friendly and pleasant and the staff did everything they could to help us enjoy the evening. In short, strange location, good service, and value for money and we would happily go again for a simple uncomplicated meal.

We have stayed here twice now & on each occasion the food has been excellent. The rooms are spacious, clean & comfortable. The location is quiet, despite being near a main road. All the staff are friendly & it is well managed. No relaxing seating areas downstairs but as we had rooms with a sofa, we could use those before & after eating.

Had dinner, and it was really good. Service was good, but the food for the price was fantastic. I'm definitely going to return.

Good God, I'm still recovering from possibly the worst caesar salad I had ever tasted. The sauce had far too much anchovy in so a wet fishy lettuce wasn't very appealing. I was also told off for trying to order drinks as it was time for condiment not drink orders!! Bizarre

We stayed overnight and can’t recommend highly enough! Room was quiet and extremely clean. Newly refurbished- smart shower room. New bed in several rooms and in the room we had-17. Very good value with good quality food both inclusive breakfast and the separate evening meal. All staff professional and friendly. Downstairs bedroom if mobility an issue - others accessible by stairs

Sadly the room really let this hotel down. It was small, dirty and in need of some urgent maintenance. The lighting wasn't bright enough (the big light in particular). There were 2 spot lights on the ceiling in the bathroom and 1 was hanging out. The vent on the ceiling was absolutely filthy. The skirting boards were filthy and marks on everything. I wouldn't let that room out again (room 4), until it had been cleaned and more importantly, the maintenance done. The location was good for me as I was attending an anniversary house party within walking distance. I wouldn't stay again.
