The food is authentic but it’s really not wow, especially vs. the price…The restaurant ambiance is cool but the chef is rather cold despite we are sitting next to him at the counter, didn’t bother to engage any conversation with us (we speak Japanese). Finally on the nigiri sushi, the fish is fresh nothing spectacular but what surprise me is not even ginger or small rolls are supplied in the dish. So no I will not come back again.

Nice food, if a bit expensive. There is a minimum spend of £30pp but don't expect to spend less than £60pp if you are hungry.Service is terrible, entitled, uninterested, with food dumped kn the table. Very little atmosphere leaving you feeling like an inconvenience than a customer.

A lovely authentic gem of a place, not deserving of so many 1 star reviews. Hence writing this. I actually wanted to go and check it out for myself because it was either 1 or 5 stars, and seemed it was only really the service causing the negative...The quality of the food is right up there! Is it expensive? Yes, but this is the centre of London so not sure what people expect, plus it is small so when busy I am sure they will want to turn tables, however we did not feel rushed at all. There is a minimum spend but it does state this at the bottom of the menu and they checked this is ok.Service...Extremely polite and thoughtful. The team were really helpful, you may need to be a bit patient with language barriers but this is genuine and endearing. I could not fault the service and all other stafff also acknowledged us coming and going. The atmosphere was calm in the hubbub of London which I appreciated greatly, and felt a lot like many of the little spots you can find in Japan.Worth checking out!

Phenomenal food and experience, if you complain about the slow service you don't get the point of the restaurant.I would advise going earlier in the week and evening so that it is less busy and the service is faster.Omakase across London can be quite expensive and Jugemu provides a far more affordable and fantastic experience.I look forward to returning in the next few months.Staff are nice, but don't expect to talk with them too much

Jugemu offers an authentic journey into traditional Japanese cuisine in the heart of London. The chef’s unique approach creates an immersive dining experience, where you’re more an invitee than just a guest. Despite some critiques about the chef’s methods, the quality and authenticity of the food speak for themselves. Each dish is a delightful blend of flavors, encapsulating the essence of Tokyo. Embrace this unique style and you’ll be rewarded with an unforgettable culinary adventure. Highly recommended for a genuine taste of Japan in London.

I wasn't really impressed with this place given the price and half of the items were not available for a 7pm booking on a Friday night.Aside from this, the food was pretty good. They were all quite small, but tasty.

Jugemu is one of the most authentic Japanese restaurants that I have been to in London, it is a cozy and intimate restaurant where you sit close to the chef, watching his craft, and feels like an izakaya in Japan. We ordered a few small dishes and the Omakase sashimi which was definitely the stand-out item. There was a kind of fish that I did not recognize, but nevertheless, the quality and taste of the sashimi and the small dishes were excellent. However, the portion size is relatively small, the ox-tongue special we ordered only had a few small slices. Now to the service which really confused me. The waitresses were friendly and had good attitudes. However, we were informed that we had to leave by 8 pm, but we had a reservation only from 7 pm? 30 minutes into our meal, we were still hungry due to small portion sizes, so we decided to order a few handrolls. The waitresses told us that the chef will not have enough time to make the handrolls which confused me further, how is it that 30 minutes were not enough to make 2 handrolls and why would they not take our food orders after 30 minutes of sitting down. What a shame, this could be one of my favorite Japanese restaurants in London, but I cannot recommend it due to the strange/rude service. The chef really should re-evaluate how to treat his customers because the food is fantastic!

I honestly wanted to like this place but found it very difficult due to a range of problematic issues.First, they told me they ran out of salmon sashimi - strange for a Saturday 7pm restaurant booking, but OK.Second, I was informed that I would need to order enough to meet the £30 minimum food bill (apparently the amount I had selected was only £29.5). I told the waitress that was fine and that I would order more, but I wanted to have my food first and then pick later on. She said the first order needed to reach £30 and that the chef wouldn't start making any of my food until I reached that threshold. I told the waitress this should be stated on the menu and it wasn't.Third, I ordered a small glass of hot sake, and was given cold sake instead. When I told the waitress that I had ordered hot sake, I was informed it need to be carafe size if I wanted it hot (not a small glass). Again, not mentioned on the drink list (which said, in two different places, that sake was available hot or cold with no reference to minimum order size).Food portions were small but it was the above service and illogical obssession with absorbing every possible cost from the customer that made the meal such a terrible experience.Definitely would not recommend this place.

I’ve read all….. and I mean all the 1 star reviews and I don’t totally disagree with them but I do think they’re misguided. Being here felt like I was in Japan In every way. THIS IS THE MENU! THIS IS WHAT YOU GET! But what you get is…. Enthusiastic staff, amazing fish and just the best sake. I think it all depends on how you enter/order here. It definitely is worth it. Also the specials I had were fantastic and everyone was perfect (including the chef).

Amazing high end izakaya and sushi place. Some of the best sashimi I have had in London. Small place, great vibe, definitely helps if you bring someone Japanese speaking. Food made to perfection. Like being somewhere in kansai.
