Location was excellent, right across from the train station and walking distance to shops, restaurants, and bars. Staff were very pleasant and accommodating. Room was great, beds and pillows were very comfortable. Bathroom was spacious and modern. Bar had great drinks and staff. It was actually the best bar we went to in Reading in terms of drinks and atmosphere.

If the temperature is cold outside (-2’c) stay away from this hotel as the heating doesn’t work properly. In the end I ended up leaving the hotel earlier than anticipated. I was soo cold during my stay! (Why else would you put in adequate oil heater in the room? They know there are problems)At check out i explained the problem, I asked for a refund, the staff member was unable to help and simply said “I’ll pass on be feed back about the cold room, we are aware of the problems”…….why did they not tell me this before I arrived or on checkin. I really don’t think she took any notes or gave a F&@)!…..they’ve taken your money. What do they care?Oh and if you forget your phone charger, they won’t help - you’re on your own. The pillows are also worn with no firmness.Poor poor service from a Hotel brand that I have used on many many occasions…..this was a luxury/boutique hotels at its worst.

It is rare I post a 5 star review, but the Malmaison in Reading deserves this one. The room (standard) was spotlessly clean with comfortable bed (most important part) and feather pillows. The bathroom was large with an amazing shower (and a bath). There were also usb charging sockets everywhere. If I could nit pick it would be the blinds used did not quite block out all the light but very minor. The breakfast (continental in my case but can upgrade to cooked for a few pounds more), was excellent as well. Not just a few pastries and some cereals but they had things like overnight oats and porridge (freshly made) as well.Definitely stay here again. Next time I might try the restaurant for evening meal (arrived in too late this time due to the train strikes)

Good rooms, comfortable, clean and quiet. Just unfortunate in regards to the very unhelpful staff when it came to exchanging drinks or being a little more flexible with last orders at 10:30pm. The issue were not so much the unwillingness to help but the awful attitude. Comments like “we close when we feel like it”, the entire bar staff and manager were all equally as unhelpful. I just can’t understand how these people are in the service industry. Ever heard of customer service?

A great midweek meal. Quiet venue with mood lighting (you could say it was dark!) Had great fresh and tasty food. Highly recommend the half chicken main meal. Oh, and the calamari starter had the crispiest batter. Would've given 5 stars if the heating was working. Didn't stay, so I can't review the rooms.

My work booked this place for 3 day training session. The room was OK but on the first day we didn't have milk or sugar for tea and coffee, you would have thought that some care would have been made for good first impressions.More disappointingly on day 1 I asked for the music to be turned down, the speaker is right outside the door to the room we were in, the person I asked turned it right down, no problems (great!)Day 2, again the music was disturbing us. I asked a lady at reception to please turn down the music, she was rude and reluctant to do so because its company policy" that the music has to be the same in every room including the volume. As a favour to me she was willing to turn it down "a little bit"Hospitality is exactly that... try to make your guest happy if their requests are reasonable and especially easy to fulfil.Sadly she let this her employer down and as a result I will be recommending to my employer that we cancel all future bookings with them and do not use them again. What a shame."

A lovely hotel all in all but a few gripes were: only lukewarm water coming out of the shower, the product dispensers in the shower didn't work so we ended up scooping product out, there is just an overhead water supply in the shower and no handheld water head, there was dust on the brown shelving in the bathroom underneath the sink, there were only two spotlights in the room which made makeup application very difficult and a slightly hideous unit covering something up in the room. Positives were that the room was otherwise pleasant to be in, staff are friendly and helpful, the train station is incredibly close by, and breakfast was lovely. I'd return back but the above gripes stand to be fixed please.

Hotel is well located, it's very central and it's at a stone's throw away from the train station. Even being centrally located it's very silent. Rooms look somehow modern and are comfortable but they started showing signs of wear and tear. They definitely need a deep clean, looking at the thick layer of dirt around the sink drain every morning was disgusting. The breakfast was good enough, it has a vibe of chic but in the end of the day it's just a continental breakfast, I wouldn't pay extra for it though.

The hotel suite was perfect, the bath was deep and bathroom luxurious. The staff and service was good but the major issue was the food which wasn’t the hotels fault but a directive of the group management.I am intolerant to wheat and dairy, having been here in the past I didn’t expect any issues in ordering as they had been accommodating and the set menu looked like there were possible options but due to the directive they have been told they can’t make amendments to any dish so I was left with only one option which was a burger with no bun, I am not even a read meat fan.Breakfast had the same issue, I ended up with limited options. The staff tried to be helpful but their hands were tied, they did take the bottle of wine off for dinner because I had already paid for the meal. They also get you to sign a kind of disclaimer regarding the allergens which makes no sense. If you have allergies or intolerances this is not the place to go for food, get room only and eat elsewhere
