The Lion Royal Hotel has been welcoming visitors since at least the 17th century. This wonderful former coaching inn is full of charm both in terms of the building and the family who run it. The room we stayed in was very nice, the breakfast good and everyone was friendly. The building also features a bar on the CAMRA national inventory of historic pubs so is well worth a visit.

Ignore any negative posts, I have stayed here on numerous occasions, yes the beds in the old days were bad and we once even brought our own sausages but I and the rest of the biking crew absolutely love the place. Mary was a legend, she was like you're own grandma. There is not another hotel in the entire world that offers the hospitality I've had here. Took my young son Tom one year and have extremely fond memories of sitting in the living room with Mary, fire going, her beautiful dog beside her, she couldn't have been more lovely to us, asking my son where he'd been and offering up ideas for the following day. On motorbike trips we'd come home soaked after a good day out, we'd all strip off outside, hand her our kit which she would put in her toasty warm drying room, all of it would be bone dry in the morning ready for another soaking. Add to this the proximity of the lion Royal to all the action, motorbiking, biking around the reservoirs, pony trekking. Its about making your own fun not having a tv in your room like some saddo on here posted. I am the leader and the judge and I give this place my royal seal of approval and I'm sure Mary will be written in God's book of life.

This review is for the pony trekking operated by the team behind this hotel (notably Alice). First class from start to finish; my wife & daughters love the experience Alice delivers, outstanding!!

Decorations poor and peeling, The place stinks of smoke and dog and cooking, the building is dilapidated, there's no telly in the room, couldn't access wifi, the breakfast was probably cooked the day before and warmed up! and was very poor. The only thing to say that's positive is that the bike parking was good.No rating given by us as it doesn't warrant it.This is the worst B&B we've ever stayed in, and we've stayed in some bad ones. Our suggestion - give it a miss

Excellent breakfast, friendly staff, covered off street parking for bikes. Room decor is dated but prices are reasonable so, unless you like to spend time admiring your hotel room, this place is well worth considering.

Amazing owners and staff. Perfectly catered for the biking community. Great breakfast, bar and rooms. Loads of parking for vans, trailers and bikes. In the heart of the town with pubs and restaurants. Even a KTM shop with endless parts which we needed.

This review is for the pony trekking (Alice) runs with Ellen. Went as family of 4; eldest 70; youngest 7. Very safe, well organised and considered. Pony’s so we’ll cared for and beautifully thought through, Alice was very serene. We borrowed hats and boots. We saw red kites, rode through the river and outstanding nature. Kids left confident and with some great memories! Thank you Alice & team! Really recommend!

Friendly welcome for bikers & great location for trail riding in this area of Wales. Secure covered lockup for bikes at night & if you need to do any maintenance. Real fire & rustic bar popular with the locals. Drying room to have your kit cosy for the next day out. Big cooked breakfast to set you up for big day out riding. Central location if you want to go out at night to eat, drink or make merry.

Great hotel and perfect location for trail riding in Wales. Jane was first class in making sure we were fed watered for our day ahead. If you want to ride in Wales here is a perfect place to get your head down!

This weekend just gone nine of us stayed at the Lion Royal Hotel, fondly known as Scary Mary's!Mary passed away fairly recently leaving the hotel to her son William & his lovely manager wife Jane. The hotel is now in a restoration phase, with a big injection of customer love and care. Jane is taking constructive comments on board, so no more dog's & dog poo in the court yard, cold rooms, hospital bed or beds that sink in the middle. Giving the hotel a really great feeling. What Jane needs now s a lot of trail riders to come and stay so she can carry on improving the old place! I'm looking forward to my next visit.p.sHighly recommend Jane's trail guide, local farmer David who's skills and knowledge are second to none.
