Beautiful old building. Went for a wedding and it was an amazing reception, rooms were nice enough and the function rooms and bar really nice. Only letdown was breakfast was poor, too small for all the guests and cold food and kept running out, quite disorganised.

Rooms need a deep clean, found stains on my toilet and hair, dust, and other bits in the drawers, dust on top of radiators, cobwebs in the corners etc… shower has good pressure but swings from hot to cold to hot again, beds were not the most comfortable but I have a sensitive back…Staff are lovely, reception team is flawless. The castle itself is beautiful and steeped in history! Really enjoyed the common areas and the resident bar.The restaurant is okay, best dish is the bbq pork. Everything has a slight vinegary undertone, the jus tastes the same for the three different dishes I ordered.Overall, wouldn’t say I would stay again, although the superb staff made my experience 10x better. Doesn’t feel like a 4 star hotel experience. Management needs to improve room standards!!

We Are Sherburn CIC is a not-for-profile organisation that brings Businesses, Community projects and Education together to make a stronger and more progressive town. We held one of our monthly meetings at Hazlewood Castle. We can not praise the staff, the organisation of the event and the food enough. The entire team were so incredibly helpful and willing to give that little bit extra to make sure our 62 guests enjoyed the meeting in a wonderful festive atmosphere. Thank you!

Room was beautifulFood we ordered was amazingDownsides tho were as followed:When booking it states money comes out in the 24 hours which it did. Then was put back in randomly at some point which I didn't notice. I was told by a staff member it had all been paid but on checkout was told it wasn't paid so that was embarrassing! Was no breakfast included as when we got there all of the food was gone and I was told it was a first come first serve basis which was not good especially when we paid almost 250 for one night! The shower was not powerfully at all you got more water coming out of the tap than the shower. The toilets didn't flush correctly.

This is a tricky review to write. My family and I attended a booked Christmas lunch on Sunday 10th Dec 2023. Our expectations were high, after all, this is a 4-star hotel. The lunch was served in the bar rather than in the restaurant. But we were a little surprised to find we were given a table where two of the seats were armchairs, which were rather low for eating from the table. Ok we thought, let's go with this rather than asking to be moved. However, whilst the bar room was grand in a 1990s way, it lacked any atmosphere, (as opposed to other rooms in the building) and the table, whilst set for our meal, didn't even have a table cloth.Overall, the food was passable, but felt more like a discount Sunday meal at a pub, than a special Christmas lunch. No table dressings or crackers were anywhere in sight, despite the meal being booked via their Events Team. One of our party was also served food which was cold. She wouldn't let us raise this with the serving staff to correct it, as she was so fed by then. We had to wait a VERY long time between courses. And I do mean a VERY long time. Our lunch was booked for 1pm and we didn't finish the three courses until around 5pm. By then we were all fed up of the interminable waiting and just wanted to go home. The serving staff were very young and obviously rather inexperienced. For a 4-star hotel, there was no attention to detail at all. (Someone who had cheese was served a spoon and fork to eat it with, another example was having to push staff in order to get drinks and also freezing cold pats of butter being served). You do expect better of a 4-star hotel and wonder regarding the hefty service charge which was added to our bill. The staff on reception were lovely, but I do feel all in all, that the hotel needs to up it's game. Look at that attention to detail which is expected of a hotel at your level @Hazlewood Castle!Needless to say, we won't be eating here again.

A real special place to stay set in spectacular grounds. So much history and the room we had was really nice. Also the breakfast was spot on. I can't wait to book a room again when we next go to York.

I was invited to a wedding here at this wonderful building. The grounds are amazing. Just a shame about the upkeep of the rooms and the cleaning. Not up to standard and in need of a really good deep clean. Maybe they were short staffed, I'm not sure. The food was amazing. I would visit again, not sure when but I wouldn't have my own wedding here. Each to their own. For the prices and amount of money people spend here, I'd expect a lot more. It's a shame the inside wasn't up to scratch with the outside. The staff that I approached were all very helpful and worked to make sure our visit was successful. Each one smiled and was very polite and friendly. Thank you
